Overview:The Electrical Designer IV – Lead is responsible for overseeing and managing all assigned projects including design and construction projects, engineering studies, analyses, and reports, etc. They are responsible for the complete Electrical Design and management of their assigned project(s), and/or other project tasks.
Responsibilities:Specific Responsibilities
- Overall project communication.
- Effectively communicate all project information with project stakeholders at all levels, including: client, owner, internal team members, external team members, subcontractors, and Bernhard TME leadership.
- Negotiating and writing fee proposals and contracts; Developing and managing project scope; Scheduling; Budgeting; Preparing cost estimates; Discipline coordination; Personnel management (time sheets, reviews, job performance); Overseeing of construction administration; Billing coordination; Maintaining project profitability; and Ensuring quality control.
- Maturity in the leadership of Project Design supporting the drafting and design teams and collaborating with design Engineers from all disciplines. Intimately understands project scope, timeline, deliverables, challenges, risks, and client expectations.
- Manages client satisfaction, quality of professional services, and financial performance for assigned projects.
- Participates in business development efforts through project development, proposal development, and interview participation. Translates client’s needs into TME projects.
- Mentors and directs work of BIM/CAD Technicians, Designers, EI’s, Engineers, Administrative Assistants, and Construction Administrators in order to ensure quality control and professional development. Responsibilities include training, assigning, and directing work, answering questions, and resolving problems.
- Reviews employee timesheets for direct personnel reports and manages time spent on projects.
- Designs and prepares drawings for electrical systems for projects, including conducting code review, lighting calculations, power, systems and devices, power distribution, electrical connections for mechanical equipment, etc. Incorporates sustainable and high performance building technology design methods into design projects.
- Develops and edits electrical system specifications for projects.
- Attends meetings with owners, clients, and/or architects; Prepares and distributes meeting notes.
- Coordinates with local authorities, utilities, and municipalities to ensure compliance with construction and governmental standards.
- Coordinates project designs with other discipline including architectural, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, civil, etc.
- Conducts site surveys to determine existing facility conditions.
- Responsible for construction administration and assigned personnel.
- Conducts project job site visits during construction to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications, owner expectations, and building codes. Prepares punch lists and project observations reports to note findings.
- Prepares Proposal Requests (PR’s) and Supplemental Instructions (SI’s); and Responds to Requests for Information (RFI’s).
- Oversees review of project submittal documents.
- Ensures that any direct personnel reports adhere to TME policies and procedures.
- Regularly monitors direct personnel reports’ performance and conducts bi-yearly employee evaluations for these individuals.
- Participates in relevant professional organizations for networking and professional development.
- Upholds TME’s owner advocacy philosophy and organizational core values.
This position is Full-Time, Exempt, and reports to the Engineering Director.
Qualifications:Required Education, Experience, and Qualifications
- 2-year Technical Degree or Associates Degree in Electrical-Related Field, or an Electrical Program / Course / Classes at a Community College.
- 10 - 15 years of experience as an electrical designer for an engineering or architectural/engineering design firm, or 10 - 15 years of experience as a Master Electrician and/or Electrical Contractor, or 15 years of experience as a Journeyman Electrician working for an Electrical Contractor.
- Must have experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Revit, and AutoCAD.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and willing to tackle various ongoing projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Versed in the industry and the Company’s competitors.
- Ability to multitask and perform duties outside of the scope of work when necessary.
Preferred Education, Experience, and Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam.
- Experience with healthcare, higher education, and laboratory projects.
- Extensive experience with larger commercial projects including healthcare, higher education, laboratory, and central energy plant projects.
- Thorough knowledge and use of SKM software for use on fault current calculations, Arc-flash studies and labeling, etc.
Travel Requirements
- 25% of time will be spent traveling to job site(s)/office location.
Physical/Work Environment Requirements
- Ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and/or poles.
- Climbing stairs.
- Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Operating machinery and/or power tools.
- Outdoor elements such as precipitation, heat, cold, and/or wind.
- Noisy environment.
- Light to heavy work that includes adjusting and/or moving objects from 20-100 pounds.
