Electrical Designer

Location: Greenwood Village, CO Corporate Office

CLP Engineering (CLPE) is seeking an Electrical Designer to join our engineering team who are responsible for planning, design, construction, operations, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems. The Electrical Designer will develop, prepare, check and coordinate designs and drawings needed for plant electrical systems per applicable standards and codes. This position will collaborate with engineers to gather required information and complete tasks and calculations to complete drawing packages.

CLPE is a full-service electric utility solutions engineering firm with more than twenty years’ experience in electrical utility system ownership, upgrades, maintenance and operations through our sister company, City Light & Power. CLPE offers a wide range of power system engineering services to investor-owned, municipal, cooperative, government, industrial, and commercial customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop accurate designs complying with recognized drafting standards, company practices, policies and procedures.
• Prepare and oversee electrical power system design including single line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Develop plans, elevations and sections of various electrical systems, inclusive of below ground and above ground designs.
• Substation design will be a key responsibility of the Electrical Designer.
• Perform conduit and cable sizing calculations, ground grid layouts, and details.
• Create bill of materials (BOMs) for all components associated with the various electrical system designs.
• Ability to prepare as-built drawings from red-line copies.
• Assist with complete design checks to assure applicable codes, standards, design/drafting standards, and technical accuracy have been incorporated.
• Ability to interface successfully with the customer to provide technical support and integrate designs as required.
• Exercise independent judgment to develop designs with minimal direction and may concurrently support multiple projects.
• Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Associate degree or equivalent in drafting, engineering technology or related field preferred.
• 5-7 years of experience in the design of electrical systems required.
• Previous drafting or design experience in the power industry (distribution systems and/or substations) preferred.
• Experience with cable tray/conduit layouts, lighting design and grounding.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software.
• Pluses are previous experience with MicroStation or 3D Modeling.
• Ability to understand and verify applicable electrical design criteria, familiar with construction industry standards.
• Must have a good working technical knowledge of other discipline interfaces and ability to perform calculations to document design decisions.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance:

• You must be a US Citizen.
• Military Base Security Access Clearance is required for this position.
• Valid driver’s license is required with a record that meets the CLP Fleet Policy.

• Hourly payrate range: $36.00 - $42.00 based on experience plus eligible for participation in Short Term Incentive Plan.
