Position Summary
The Electrical design engineer will oversee the design of digital and mixed-signal control and monitoring circuits, as well as PCB layout, and FPGA code development for advanced DC and AC power frequency converters. Working within the Design Engineering group, this role involves coordinating design efforts and specifications for industrial electronic products, including frequency converter products ranging from 3.5 to 250 kVA with output voltages of DC or 3-phase AC spanning from 40 to 800 Hz.
Principal Duties and Areas of Responsibility
• Design, development, test and evaluation of digital and mixed signal circuits for high-power industrial frequency/power converters
• Requirements capture and definition, component selection, schematic capture, PCB layout, analysis, simulation, verification, testing, design review preparation and participation
• Analyze appropriate industry and military specifications to ensure product compliance • Participate in systems integration, debug and test at the product level
• Work closely with software engineers to enable them to develop operating software and firmware for the board designs
• Work closely with electrical engineers to integrate the control and monitoring circuitry with the power circuitry
• Write and release board documentation including engineering drawings, schematics, bills of materials, and Gerber files
• Stay up to date with the latest devices, technologies, and design techniques
• Provide technical and schedule updates to management
Education and Experience Requirements
• A degree in Electronic/Electrical engineering or equivalent with at least 3 years of experience in circuit design
• Experience in designs involving power conversion preferred
• Experience in board level designs that include FPGA, CPLD, DSP, and micro-controllers
• Proven design skills in product development environment
• Ability to read, interpret, understand, and comply with military, product, customer, and industry specifications
• Experience with PCB Layout software, OrCAD and/or PADS preferred
• Knowledge of PCB manufacturing processes and design rules
• Experience with component level modeling for SPICE and PSIM simulation software
• Knowledge of computer programming languages, C/C++ preferred
• Ability to meet schedule milestones
• Attention to detail when writing and releasing documentation
• Work independently and as part of a team
• Interpersonal skills: ability to collaborate between groups
• Take personal responsibility for complicated design/development and take the project to completion
