GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
This position is responsible for providing maintenance services to the Long Products Rolling and
Finishing Mills, primarily regarding issues involving electrical/automation problems. The
Electrical Maintenance Day Technician's primary responsibilities are the inspection of,
maintenance planning of and overseeing the maintenance performed in the Technician's assigned
areas. In addition, the position requires work on scheduled work orders and on downtime work
including Preventative Maintenance and Corrective Action work orders.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Performs inspections, consults with operations, and checks downtime reports to keep
current on any maintenance issues or problems in the Technician's assigned areas.
2. Keeps an up-to-date list of all maintenance issues in the Technician's assigned areas.
Works with the Electrical Maintenance Engineer, the Maintenance Group Leader, and
outside contractors to get the needed work scheduled and completed as soon as
possible, based on the urgency of the work to be done.
3. Works with the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor and the Electrical Maintenance
Engineer on projects and upgrades in the Technician's assigned areas. This may
involve working with the equipment manufacturer or other outside companies.
4. Works with the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor and the Electrical
Maintenance Engineer on making sure all necessary spare parts are stocked for
the Technician's assigned areas. This may involve working with the equipment
manufacturer or other outside companies.
5. Keeps the Technician's assigned areas cleaned and free from accumulated trash
or used parts. Schedules housekeeping work as needed.
6. Repairs or replaces defective or damaged components that affect any of the Long
Products Rolling or Finishing Mills equipment. This includes identifying the
part(s) needed, finding and retrieving the part(s) from Spares and installing the
parts needed.
7. Completes work as assigned on maintenance work orders. These work orders
include any type of maintenance work (electrical, mechanical, automation) and
are performed either on downtime or while the machine is running.
8. Fills out any information which needs to be passed on to the rest of Electrical
maintenance.
9. Fills out PM Check Sheets where required.
10. Performs any miscellaneous jobs assigned either verbally or in writing by the
Electrical Maintenance Supervisor, Electrical Maintenance Engineer or Long
Products Manager.
11. Fills in for other Electrical Maintenance Days Technicians or Electrical
Maintenance Technicians on turn shift as required.
12. First to be contacted during off hours for major problems and equipment
breakdowns.
13. Physical requirements include lifting at least 50 pounds, climbing ladders,
twisting, bending, stooping, and working in narrow, confined areas.
RELATIONSHIPS:
1. The Long Products Electrical Maintenance Day Technician works as a team member
of the Maintenance Crew on the day shift. The job involves independent work on
troubleshooting or repairing electrical/automation systems, and working with other
members of the Maintenance Crew on work orders or breakdowns. The Electrical
Maintenance Day Technician works with Maintenance Engineers and Supervisors on
work orders and breakdowns and is required to interact with operations personnel to
determine the functionality of repairs to existing and new equipment. In addition, the
Electrical Maintenance Day Technician must work with outside vendors and
contactors on ordering parts and scheduling and performing maintenance work.
2. The chain of command for the Electrical Maintenance Day Technician is as follows:
the Electrical Maintenance Day Technician reports to the Electrical Maintenance
Engineer. The Electrical Maintenance Engineer reports to the Electrical Maintenance manager.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
1. A Minimum of a High School Degree or Equivalent (GED)
2. Two year industrial experience and/or technical degree in the related
field

Mobility in plant.

Dexterity: Grasping (firm/strong), finger dexterity/handling, reaching.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
1. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
2. Follow Company safety rules.
3. Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisor
or Manager immediately.
4. Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that is required to be used or
worn:
Safety shoes
Safety glasses
Hearing protection
Hard Hat
5. Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of the
Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy.
6. Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines.
7. Maintain a clean and safe work area.
