About the Job
Under the direction of the Teacher, the Child Care Assistant maintains childrens records, communicates information to families, and maintains a safe, healthy, warm, engaging, and attractive environment. This position assists the Teacher with daily classroom prep, indoor and outdoor activities, meal time, and bathroom breaks. This is a part-time, hourly position. The Center is open Monday-Friday from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm and hours will be scheduled accordingly.
Qualified candidates must have a minimum of 1 years experience caring for infants/toddlers and an Associates Degree in Early Education is preferred.
Know How
Must have skills in Working with Families, Conflict Resolution and Public Relations.
Knowledge of group process - must agree to work in harmony with other staff.
Must be committed to the philosophy and goals of the YMCA.
Must possess effective leadership skills and crisis management skills.
Must possess and utilize excellent organizational skills.
Must complete Child Abuse Prevention, Blood Borne Pathogens, Sexual Harassment, Workplace Safety training upon hire.
Must keep safety of children as a first priority. Emphasizes personal safety and emotional well-being with the children, families, and other staff at all times.
By personal example, helps to interpret the quality of the YMCA character values of children, staff, and families. Must be a positive healthy role model.
Uses positive and constructive methods of behavior management.
Supervises children to ensure safety and appropriate behavior and manage transitions smoothly.
Responsible for making sure that materials are ready for use and put away at the end of the day.
Participates in 20 hours of training per year and 25% must be in the area of children with special needs.
Attends staff meetings.
Performs chore duties as scheduled at the program, which rotate among staff.
Must contact the Director with a minimum of 2 hours notice of an absence.
Is accountable for all children assigned at all times.
Must adhere to the rules, regulations and procedures set forth by the YMCA and the Department of Early Education and Care.
