Your New Job
The Position
HHS Construction is seeking a Safety Inspector/Trainer who can plan and conduct job site safety inspections to identify hazards in the workplace per OSHA rules and regulations. The Safety Inspector/Trainer must have construction job site experience and knowledge of commonly used tools and machinery. The Safety Inspector/Trainer will travel within a broad territory, conducting inspections and documenting any potential issues. During these visits, you may also lead training seminars and review procedures with our employees. This role is not only essential to our compliance with federal and state safety regulations, but also to the health and efficiency of our workforce. This position will be focused on all aspects of environmental, health, & safety including DOT compliance issues for its fleet of vehicles.
Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
- Conduct daily safety job site audits
- Oversee worker safety and work quality.
- Monitor tools/ equipment condition and use, i.e.: fire extinguishers, ladders, power tools. Ensures jobsite foremen are enforcing the company Code of Safe Practices, and IIPP
- Conduct investigations of all injuries, and accidents. Analyze work-related hazards to determine root cause and target procedural, instructional or equipment changes to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain all safety related files, documentation, and reports, including but not limited to training records, accident documentation and safety inspection reports.
- Conduct and/or manage all training relevant to safety issues including but not limited to; OSHA required courses, First Aid/ CPR, new hire safety training, fire extinguisher certification, forklift certification and DOT training, and any other safety relates courses and classes.
- Review safety procedures
- Issues PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), as needed
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations
- Responds to incidents outside of “normal" work hours or performs trainings on Saturdays, as needed.
- Performs other duties, as assigned
- Associate degree in Occupational Safety, Construction, or a related field and three years’ experience in safety training or safety investigation or a closely related area.
- 3-5 years’ experience in construction safety – Telecommunications Construction Preferred
- Current OSHA Construction 10-hour or 30-hour certification, a plus
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Bilingual (English and Spanish)
- Knowledge of State & Federal safety regulations and standards.
- Knowledge of applicable policies, procedures and standards and regulations pertaining to specific duties and responsibilities of each job.
- Good Microsoft Office skills.
- Good organizational and planning skills.
- Good math skills.
- Ability to stay current with changes in policy, methods, equipment needs, and departmental operations.
- Ability to assemble information and compile reports and documents.
- Ability to interpret and apply regulations and procedures.
- Ability to use Audio/Visual aids in presentations.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of employees.
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with employees, management, consultants, and government entities.
- Work is performed in both an indoor and outdoor environment.
- May be required to walk on uneven terrain, work in trenches, and climb ladders
- May be exposed to heavy machinery and extreme weather conditions.
- Incumbent must have the mobility to visit job sites on a regular basis. Visits to job sites include exposure to dust, extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, and inclement weather in a construction zone environment with occasional exposure to hazardous work conditions.
- Physical demands consist of frequent standing, climbing, walking, lifting, bending, or stooping.
- May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Incumbent must be able to see and hear in the normal range with or without correction and communicate both verbally and in written form with great facility and be understood.
- Incumbent must have the stamina to work long hours and overtime, if assigned, and must be willing to work an irregular schedule, attend evening meetings after working a full day, if necessary.
