Position Title: EHS Safety Coordinator

Role Overview: The EHS Safety Coordinator manages plant-level safety and environmental compliance responsibilities with limited oversight. Acting as a liaison to relevant federal, state, and local agencies, this role involves implementing and overseeing Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs to safeguard employees and minimize company risks. The coordinator collaborates with plant leadership to proactively introduce preventative measures and address EHS issues, and conducts investigations into incidents to determine root causes and corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Execute health and safety programs in line with the company’s safety management framework.
• Implement and manage ISO 14001 (where applicable) environmental management protocols.
• Develop and deliver safety training and communicate safety policies to ensure a secure working environment.
• Maintain OSHA logs, EHS documentation, and reporting requirements for both internal and external stakeholders.
• Support plant-level environmental compliance and sustainability efforts, including managing hazardous waste, air emissions, water resources, and permits, both directly and with external consultants.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies to confirm compliance, address issues, and foster a cooperative relationship.
• Identify and report potential violations and oversee the implementation of corrective measures.
• Conduct regular safety and environmental inspections, taking immediate corrective actions when necessary.
• Propose and oversee EHS-related capital projects within supported facilities.
• Analyze workplace safety and environmental incidents, partnering with the Operations team to implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Manage workers’ compensation claims for the facilities served.
• Undertake additional tasks as assigned.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

• In-depth understanding of EHS regulations and compliance requirements from federal agencies (e.g., OSHA and EPA), local agencies, and safety standards.
• Knowledge of safety protocols within manufacturing settings, including industrial hygiene, ergonomics, machinery safety, interlock systems, industrial vehicle training, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Experience in managing comprehensive safety, environmental, and sustainability projects.
• Proficiency in conducting investigations, analyzing data, and using sound judgment to determine root causes and effective solutions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in computer applications and data analysis tools.
• Ability to work independently, manage tasks and projects effectively, and meet deadlines.

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in EHS, ideally within a manufacturing setting.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The role requires regular standing, walking, talking, and listening. Frequent use of hands for handling or feeling, as well as walking and reaching, is necessary. The position may involve lifting or moving up to 50 pounds occasionally. Safe practices must always be observed. Specific vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
