General Function
The EH&S Specialist coordinates environmental health and safety policies, completes workplace and equipment inspections; implements safety programs; tracks and reports on environmental compliance activities; develops and maintains databases, documentation, calendars, and reports of regulated activities associated with campus facilities including permits, certifications, inspections, and enforcement events, while promoting a proactive environmental and safety compliance culture.
- Assist in the development and implementation of environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures.
- Conduct workplace inspections and audits.
- Conduct risk assessments and assist in the implementation strategies to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Assist in evaluation and oversight of the hazardous waste management programs.
- Maintain and analyze safety records and data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Manage emergency response plans and procedures.
- Maintain general knowledge of and support compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements pertaining to employee health and safety and environmental including but not limited to air permitting, storm water management, hazardous waste management and emergency action plans.
- Prepare reports, maintains files, and communicate data with local, state, and federal regulatory guidelines for the facilities.
- Maintain general knowledge of fire protection systems and associated compliance requirements.
- Maintain general understanding of Environmental Management Systems.
- Maintain document files pertaining to audits & observations of workforce performance..
- Facilitate, arrange and conduct EHS related training including new hire orientation.
- Track information on energy and resource-efficient projects & programs.
- Provide recommendations for changes in EHS related policies and procedures.
- Works with the campus EHS team to support injury prevention programs. Analyzes injury reports to identify trends and provides recommendations and enhancements to reduce incident rates.
- Prepares all necessary forms, records and documentation, to include statistical analyses and reports, for injuries and illnesses including the OSHA 300 log and summary.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates degree or equivalent relevant business experience
- 1+ year(s) experience in a safety or environmental team role.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations, standards, and best practices
- Ability to develop and maintain databases of permits and reports required for a two manufacturing facilities and one distribution center
- Above average computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
- Ability to analyze information, solve problems, prioritize tasks, and manage time and regulatory deadlines effectively with minimal supervision and direction
- Ability to effectively work with all levels of the organization and cross-functional teams
- Excellent organization, communication (oral & written), and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in an open office environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION
- Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: bioscience; earth sciences; ecology; energy; environmental engineering; environmental health; environmental sciences or management; engineering with a sustainability focus
- 2+ year of experience with administering environmental or similar programs
- Ability to use web-based applications
