About the Job
Position Purpose
The Education and Community Development Director is responsible for all program support and funding development initiatives. This individual will build new relationships to increase Child Inc's visibility, impact, and financial resources. The Education and Community Development Director also will design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances marketed to individuals and private organizations and maintaining primary responsibility for writing government grant applications. Additional responsibilities include conducting the community assessment at least every three years and update every year; other community and internal agency planning and evaluation needs; and keeping current on research that can potentially impact the agency or its clientele. The Education and Community Development Director will advise the executive director and management staff on initiatives to identify funding sources such as grants, in-kind donations, charitable events and marketing opportunities. This position will work closely with the City of Austin and Travis County contracts to ensure all renewals, deadlines, monitoring visits, and reports, are done in a professional timely manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Planning
- Conducts research, studies, and plans activities related to community assessment and/or agency operations.
- Develops independently and in conjunction with other staff strategies to increase positive organizational visibility in the community.
- Represents the agency in the community as directed by the Executive Director.
- Keeps the Executive Director apprised of research, planning, and related items at the local, state and national levels that may affect the agency.
- Coordinates the preparation of various community needs assessments and all required reports to funding sources.
- Head up planning an annual fundraising event: develop a philanthropic arena to build community resources for a capital campaign. Identify significant media and public policy issues that can be leveraged to support Child Inc's work and create and implement plans to exploit them.
Development/Marketing
- Researches, develops and implements diversified marketing strategies and techniques to meet defined financial goals.
- Develops and implements a strategic marketing plan to maintain existing support and broaden the base of support from foundations, individual donors, and other sources of support.
- Keeps up-to-date on current grant and contract obligations, reporting requirements and reporting formats and templates, and work with staff to ensure those obligations and reporting requirements are met.
- Prepares, coordinates and processes all grant applications, contracts, requests for proposals, and contracts compliance.
- Advises and strategizes with senior leadership on overall marketing strategies, processes, and procedures, and on specific grant‐seeking and funder relations issues and opportunities.
- Develops methods to leverage opportunities to align messaging, tactics, and opportunities for support.
- Maintains comprehensive schedule of grant opportunities, deadlines, follow-up activities and reporting requirements for grants received.
- Works collaboratively with Executive Director to prepare quality grant requests.
- Develops and maintains consistent marketing collateral.
- Develops and implements clear marketing strategies for all branches of Child Inc, including the Head Start Program, Early Head Start Program, Home Visitor Program, the Dad Show, and Flat Creek Crossing Ranch.
Public Relations
- Establish and maintain relationships and collaborations with community agencies and partners.
- Attend interagency organizational and planning meetings as appropriate.
- Participate in professional development activities and organized community events.
- Study the objectives, promotional policies and needs of organizations to develop public relations strategies that will influence public opinion or promote ideas, products and services.
- Prepare or edit organizational publications for internal and external audiences, including employee newsletters and social media sites.
- Respond to requests for information from the media or designate another appropriate spokesperson or information source.
- Assist the Executive Director with the recruitment of board members.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing or nonprofit leadership with marketing experience.
- Minimum of two years' work in a non-profit organization with an emphasis on grant writing, planning, marketing, community and public relations.
- Proven success in development for a nonprofit agency.
- Experience in planning, leading, and managing development projects, including coordinating with peers to achieve desired outcomes, and tracking and reporting on progress to Executive Director.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working with diverse population both in the community and supervising staff.
- Has experience and is adept at working through the Microsoft Office Suite, included but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Able to successfully manipulate social media web content on behalf of Child Inc.
- Must pass all criminal history background checks.
