Job Title: Technical Editor II (31415467)
Duration: 12+ months
Location: Columbia, SC – 29223
Rate: $38.47/hr on W2 (No C2C)
Manager Notes:
- Onsite everyday – no exceptions, must come into the Columbia office Monday – Friday
- REQUIRED: High level skills with MS Word, Adobe Acrobat DC Pro, MS PowerPoint, and Beyond Compare Pro.
- PREFERRED: Intermediate skills with MS Outlook, Teams, Excel, Project, Visio, and SharePoint
- Reviews, and edits Federal, State, and commercial business proposal response content to include cover letters, resumes, past performance and the technical and business volumes. Ensures that all response content follows the standards detailed in the CDS writing style guide and corporate style guide. Reviews, validate and corrects technical terms and organizational names and defines acronyms.
- Takes ownership of the technical editing process to ensure grammatically correct, complete, compliant, responsive, and customer-centric proposal response content for federal, state, or commercial business solicitations (RFPs, RFIs, RFQs, task orders, etc.) or corporate related tasks. Suggests content improvements and works with various departments, senior management, and other staff members to provide concise, directed content feedback, to improve response content. Other tasks as assigned.
- Creates, formats, and maintains information on the team SharePoint site. Ensures content is kept up to date with a regular review cycle. Formats new content to adhere to the organization CDS Writing Style Guide standards and corporate style guide to ensure the information follows the corporate branding style guide. Updates organizational information and solicitation specific organizational charts.
- Consults with technical, operations, and contracts staff in gathering, reviewing, and editing content in support of proposal response efforts and corporate reporting.
- Analyzes content for compliant, concise, compelling and customer centric proposal response content. Develops proposal response team resources includes schedules, compliance matrices and customized response templates.
- Although this is a technical editor role, they will not be writing tech specs but instead assisting with proposals
Summary
Elicits, analyzes, validates, edits, and revises business requirements to be included in technical documentation, such as user manuals, installation manuals, help documents, and tutorials. Ensures that documents follow the style laid out in the corporate style guide. Reviews documentation for organization, content, technical accuracy, and style. •40% Analyzes and updates technical documentation and information, while ensuring consistency and availability to all employees and management. Suggests revisions and works with senior management to provide adequate process improvement modifications to existing standards. Creates materials for process improvement presentations, which may include prototypes, test matrices, training documents, and process design documentation. •25% Creates, formats, and maintains information on the IS intranet portal. Ensures content is kept up-to-date with a regular review cycle. Formats new content to adhere to IS intranet portal standards and ensure the information follows the corporate style guide. Gathers and analyzes organizational information and update Hierarchical Matrix, Organizational Chart, and Client Diagram as necessary. •15% Consults with technical operations staff in gathering, reviewing, and researching the needs of the organization for each assignment. •15% Analyzes submitted System Master Index information for usefulness, missing information, and existing content, and maintain master database to include annual content reviews. •5% Assists Design Architects with presentation designs and formats across multiple platforms.
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Technology, English, Journalism or other job related field or 4 years of job related work experience or 2 years of job related experience plus an associate’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, English, Journalism or other job related degree
- 5 years technical writing and/or technical process standards development experience.
- Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Visio.
- Ability to work effectively on several projects simultaneously, independently from general guidance, and with groups.
- Thorough knowledge of documentation security processes. Strong organizational skills with close attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including: management, highly-skilled technical staff, non-technical personnel, and senior management.
- Ability to efficiently handle stressful situations and short notice assignments.
