Salary Range: $52.6100 - $80.8600 /hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The ECMO Coordinator must possess a high degree of organizational skills and acts as the lead ECMO Specialist (ES). The ECMO Coordinator will ensure ECMO practices are concurrent with hospital operational and strategic goals, policies and guidelines. The ECMO Coordinator will work in close collaboration with Perfusion regarding initiation, management and removal of ECMO. The ECMO Coordinator will work in close collaboration with the Cardiac Physicians, Intensivists, HVI Director, CCU/CVICU Director, and CVOR Manager to ensure effective and efficiency program management.
The ECMO Coordinator will be responsible for training and orienting, developing competencies and mentoring the clinical trained and competent staff in performing ECMO at the bedside, appropriate behavior and decision-making as well as leading by example. The ECMO Coordinator provides feedback to managers on clinical staff performance with recommendations for improvement.
The ECMO Coordinator will develop policies and procedures, guidelines and delegation protocols and implementation of protocols, procedures and standardized procedures. The ECMO Coordinator will provide recommendation to order set development and the electronic medical record documentation. The ECMO Coordinator will be responsible for data collection, accurate record keeping and data entry in the ELSO registry.
The ECMO Coordinator demonstrates a commitment to quality and excellence promoting Hoag as an ECMO Center of Excellence. The ECMO Coordinator ensures the ECMO program is compliant with Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) guidelines and recommendations.
The ECMO Coordinator will look for opportunities to present at medical meetings, network with other ECMO centers and attend ECMO meetings to keep appraised on ECMO management and new technology. The ECMO Coordinator will be involved in product evaluation and assessment and assist with program development and implementation of new technology.
Education and Experience
Required:
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree
- Recent ECMO Specialist training from a hospital-based training program at an ECMO Center of Excellence (within 6 months of hire)
- Ability to perform advanced ECMO procedures independently within the scope of their license and have good problem solving skills
Preferred:
- Masters of Nursing Degree or Nurse Practitioner
- Three (3) years’ experience as an ECMO Specialist
License Required
- RN: Current license in good standing as a registered nurse in California
License Preferred
- Current license in good standing as a nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist in California
Certifications Required
- Current BLS, ACLS, and ECMO Certification (within 1 year of hire)
