Position Summary
Cardiac Sonographer II follows established policies, procedures, and performs and records Echocardiology diagnostic tests. Obtains information about normal and abnormal anatomy used to diagnosis disease. Ensures echo exams are of acceptable quality and records results. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care that is appropriate to the ages of the patients served on their assigned units.
rimary Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities
1.Reviews patient’s chart and results of previous studies. Selects appropriate equipment. Explains test/procedure to the patient to elicit cooperation and allay apprehensions. Interviews the patient and/or caregiver in order to gather and record pertinent personal and medical information. Assists patient with proper positioning.
2.Moves transducer, by hand, over specific area of body and observes sound wave display screen to detect patholo¬gies and check for factors such as position, obstruction, change of shape and so forth; determines if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes. Completes the sonographer report after each exam. Maintains competency for determining the use and delivery of a contrast agent per department policy. Successfully completes competencies for the position.
3.Captures images in CPACS. Ends exam as reviewed and fixes any QA issues. Understands and utilizes the EPIC workflow for ordering, scheduling, documenting, and charging Department procedures.
4.Discusses test results with physicians or other departmental personnel as needed. Repeats process as necessary.
5.Maintains equipment in a clean and proper working order and replenishes supplies as necessary. Performs minor adjustments to testing equipment and notifies department leadership of serious malfunctions.
6.Performs related clerical duties such as answering tele¬phones, relaying messages, scheduling appointments, main-taining stock of linen and supplies, and distributing test results.
7.Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals and other literature and attending related seminars, conferences and the like. Attends mandatory department, Medical Center meetings, and other work-related educational programs.
8.Supports and is involved in the Medical Center's continuous quality improvement efforts designed to increase patient outcomes, increase patient satisfaction, and improve the utilization of the Medical Center's human, capital, and physical resources.
9.Assists in clinical training of new mission partners and students.
10.Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with medical center personnel, outside agencies and contract facilities that utilize the mobile echo services.
Basic Qualifications
1.Registration as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer and certification in (1) one patient population. Requires BLS certification
2.Required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served on their assigned unit(s). This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.
3. Requires a professional level of knowledge of echocardiology techniques and must be able to independently perform diagnostic echocardiograms procedures. At least one year training in echocardiology specific to a patient population. Communicates effectively with patients when allaying fears and eliciting cooperation, and to relay patient information to physicians and nursing personnel.
4.Requires analytical ability to recognize anatomic abnormalities, adjust equipment settings to appropriately target the ultrasound and identify irregularities during course of ultrasound and notify appropriate personnel.
5. Prioritizes and organizes daily work load while paying close attention to detail.
Physical & Mental Requirements and Working Conditions
1.Work requires ability to stoop and bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, and communicate with other people, as well as manual dexterity and color vision.
2.Work requires ability to use a keyboard to enter and transform information or data on a daily basis.
3.Work requires the ability to use a keyboard and video display terminal to receive, retrieve, and/or audit information and data on a daily basis.
4.Work requires ability to proofread and check documents for accuracy on a daily basis.
5.Work requires the ability to stand up to 3 or more hours at a time.
6.Required ability to push portable ultrasound units, stretchers and/or wheelchairs. In addition, work requires ability to position patients on an hourly basis.
7.Work requires ability to lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds and carry objects up to 10 pounds on a daily basis.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1.Works in a patient care area where there is exposure to infectious disease, although potential for personal harm or bodily injury is limited when employee follows all safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment, including latex products.
