This position is an Eastern Regional Safety Manager role for an individual with the skills and qualifications required to collaboratively manage and provide safety leadership to Project Managers, Construction Managers, and Site Safety Managers on electric power generation, transmission, and distribution construction projects at various locations in the eastern United States.
The Eastern Regional Safety Manager is a key resource in implementing safety initiatives and ensuring compliance with EPCS and client requirements and must possess the ability to promote and model cultural excellence to our clients and employees. Weekly travel is a requirement of the position.
GENERAL SAFETY MANAGEMENT TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Establish strong professional relationships with our clients' and our contractors' senior leadership, on-site management, and safety staff.
2. Establish strong professional relationships with EPCS Senior Leadership and Project Managers, Construction Managers and Safety Managers (project staff).
3. Lead, inspire, and model safe work practices at all times and in all conditions.
4. Develop expert knowledge of client safety requirements and cultural expectations and ensure that our project staffs are meeting those requirements and expectations.
5. Provide instruction and training to EPCS Project Managers and site staff on implementation and execution of all client requirements and cultural expectations.
6. Work with project staff to develop, coordinate, and update (as project activities change) Project-Specific Safety, Health, and Environmental Plans.
7. Provide training, field observations, and coaching to project staff on topics such as Project Safety Observations; Pre-Task Planning; Stop My Unsafe Acts (situational awareness); Incident
Management; Good Catches and Near Misses; High Risk Task Planning; and other initiatives to improve safety performance and culture.
8. Communicate frequently with the EPCS Corporate Safety Manager and General Counsel about field observations and provide continuous feedback about safety performance and cultural
improvements, and important field issues with EPCS project staff and contractor site management.
9. Perform Project Safety Observations and communicate improvement opportunities to EPCS project staff and contractor site management.
10. Prepare and facilitate weekly and monthly safety calls for all project site managers and Project Managers.
11. Participate in setting goals and developing methods to improve the safe execution of project tasks. 12.Lead, review prior to final submission, and provide hands-on training and coaching to EPCS project staff, EPCS incident management protocols, including proper reporting and analysis.
13. Assist senior management in implementing and managing an iPad-based field safety observation tool that documents safe and unsafe work practices and collects data for analysis of unsafe
trends and best practices.
ACCIDENT AND INCIDENT REPORTING
1. Immediately contact the ECI Safety Specialist and EPCS Corporate Safety Manager for all OSHA recordable accidents (or direct the site safety manager or construction manager to make contact).
Interviews with parties involved OSHA recordable accidents must include the ECI Safety Specialist.
2. Supervise all near miss incident investigations in the region, root cause analyses and report development.
3. Train & Coach all Project Managers, Construction Managers and Site Safety Managers on proper incident and accident handling and reporting processes and requirements.
4. Edit, finalize, and submit the incident/accident report upon completion.
5. For serious accidents and fatalities, whether involving our own employee(s) or the employee(s) of a subcontractor on one of our projects, immediately notify General Counsel, Corporate Safety
Manager, President, Vice-President, and General manager of the situation.
Minimum Requirements
A Master's degree in a safety-related field preferred with a minimum of 5 years' experience in construction safety management, preferably in electric transmission construction; or a Bachelor of Science degree in a safety-related field with a minimum of 7 years' experience in construction safety management, preferably in electric transmission construction; or 10 years of professional construction safety management experience in electric transmission
construction. Professional safety certification awarded by a nationally recognized certifying board, such as the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP), American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH), or Utility Safety & Ops Leadership Network (USOLN). OSHA and other safety instructor certifications a plus. Applicants must not require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B visa status) now or in the future.
