The Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant provides support to the Head Start program team in identifying and securing the needed support for families of children experiencing mental health challenges.
- Provides expertise to the program through observations, assessments, and consultative support.
- Provides intervention for children and families that will promote social and emotional development using evidenced based models.
- Adhere to an evidenced-based social work model, principles, and practices.
- Provide on-site staff consultation.
- Meet with Head Start staff members to build understanding and capacity to identify and support children with behavioral and mental health concerns.
- Assist Early Learning team to develop appropriate behavioral strategies to support children with challenging behaviors in the classroom. Conduct classroom, center-based, and Home-based (for Home-based children only) child observations to assess individual needs of children as well as the overall classroom environment, assess interpersonal interactions and determine if additional Mental Health support/resources are needed to meet child's needs.
- Provide parents with education regarding mental health concerns and emotional wellness and support them in needed mental health interventions.
- Document all screenings, assessments, and consultations in appropriate database.
- Prepare and maintain timely documentation, reports, and records in accordance with agency, state accreditation, and other requirements.

- Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, or related degree with two years post-masters experience with a clinical license (LCSW, LPCMH or LMFT), preferred. Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling or related degree with a clinical license (LCSW, LPCMH, LMFT) within two years of hire date, required.
- Experience with child behavioral and mental health concerns, preferred.
- Knowledge and understanding of infant and toddler mental health, with preference given to individuals with experience working in collaboration with early education teams to provide mental health support.
- Bilingual in Spanish and/or Creole, preferred.
- Ability to respond appropriately to the cultural differences present among the agency's service population.
- Must have valid driver's license, which meets the requirements of the agency's insurance carrier and reliable transportation.
