Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for an Early-Career Geologist / Geomorphologist / Engineer / Scientist in our Atlanta, Georgia office. You will have the opportunity to apply your academic and/or practice knowledge to solving our clients’ water and natural resources challenges in ecosystem restoration, riverine engineering, stream/wetland restoration design, mitigation banking, coastal resiliency, environmental permitting and compliance, and ecosystem restoration.  This work is intimately conducted to meet Clean Water Act (CWA) requirements under Section 404, Rivers and Harbors Act Section 10, and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to meet our client’s objectives, while also learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Geospatial data processing and analysis to support ecological restoration, mitigation banking, water supply, and coastal resiliency and adaptation projects;
• Watershed and ecosystem (e.g., stream, wetland, riparian, and coastal systems) restoration assessment, analysis, and design;
• Field work to remote and urban sites involving assessments of stream (geomorphic assessments and aquatic biology sampling methods) and wetland resources (wetland delineation), threatened and endangered species, soils, groundwater (surficial water table), fauna, and flora as applicable to characterize existing site resources, impairments, and assess ecological and geomorphic restoration potential;
• Developing fieldwork plans including monitoring equipment setup design, installation and maintenance;
• Managing, evaluating, and summarizing monitoring data;
• Overseeing and/or developing hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analysis and modeling of surface water and/or shallow riparian groundwater systems;
• Preparation of written documents such as workplans, technical reports, specifications, etc. to support project execution; and
• Assisting in the development of proposals and other business development activities.
• Training: This position requires 40-hour OSHA health and safety, first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful consultants.
• Fieldwork: Up to 50%
• Overnight travel: Up to 50%

Education and Licensure:

• Bachelor's degree in natural resources science (e.g., geology, fisheries, biology, ecology etc.), or environmental engineering. (required)
• Advanced degree in natural resources science (e.g., geology, fisheries, biology, ecology etc.), or environmental engineering. (preferred)

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

• At least 2 years (5+ years preferred) of consulting experience in fluvial geomorphology, ecological restoration(riverine/wetland/riparian systems), soil science, biological monitoring, mitigation banking, and natural resources remote sensing; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
• Experience planning, conducting field and desktop data collection, data analysis, and application in an engineering context to restore degraded stream/riverine and wetland systems (e.g., developing engineering plans for construction execution). (required)
• Significant experience with conducting fluvial geomorphologic assessments in streams and riverine systems (including the various methodologies that can be employed) and using remote sensing GIS toolsets for related analysis. (preferred)
• Experience in geospatial data collection, processing and analysis, including LIDAR and photogrammetry. (preferred)
• Experience with remote sensing/modeling/design tools such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Hydro, coding in Python (or other code languages), HEC-RAS (1D & 2D), groundwater flow (riparian zones) models, HydroCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D.  (preferred)
• Experience with a variety of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for geospatial data collection (e.g., LIDAR, imagery, etc.) and possessing an FAA remote pilot license (Part 107) or willingness to attain and maintain license. (preferred)
• Experience with the application of the theory of machine learning and/or artificial intelligence (AI) methods to natural resource data analysis and solution generation. (preferred)
• Strong oral and technical writing skills. (required)
• Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
