We have an exciting career opportunity for an Early Career Environmental Scientist to join our Tempe, Arizona team. WSP is a leading engineering consulting business in Arizona, providing multi-disciplinary solutions covering all aspects of environmental consulting services, geotechnical engineering, infrastructure design and management, construction services, materials testing/engineering and water supply and resources services. This individual will have the opportunity to conduct environmental field sampling and work with the data they collect. They will learn basic principles of Environmental Assessments, Site Investigations, and Remedial Action efforts.

Your Impact
+ Will work under the mentorship and guidance of a Senior Project Manager.
+ Approximately 50% field work. Will to travel to project sites in Arizona and other states. Approximately 30% overnight travel. This includes surrounding states and opportunities for travel within the western region
+ Field activities include drilling, well installations (groundwater monitoring, soil vapor monitoring, or groundwater extraction wells), collecting soil, groundwater, surface water and sediment samples as well as documenting field activities.
+ Office activities include compilation, management and some interpretation of hydrogeologic data and analytical results.
+ Will prepare tables and figures using analytical data and topographic/site maps, and assist in preparation of technical reports, with increasing responsibilities in this area.
+ Will work with Excel spreadsheets and may perform statistical analysis of data and other routine scientific calculations.
+ Will research literature and regulatory requirements may help prepare permit applications and regulatory compliance reports.
+ Follows company safety standards, prepares site-specific Health and Safety Plans and Job Hazard Analyses.
+ Contacts and coordinates with subcontractors and sets up POs through internal purchasing system.
+ Will interact with clients and subcontractors on site.
Who You Are
Role Requirements
+ BS in Geology preferred. Related technical degree including Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering are acceptable.
+ 0 - 1 years of solid field work experience (soil borings, well installations, multi-media sampling)
+ A May or December 2024 grad maybe a good fit for this opportunity
+ Must be a self starter with leadership qualities; capable of reviewing, interpreting and following plans and providing direction to subcontractors.
+ Strong technical writing skills.
+ Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Strong computer skills for database work and proficiency in MS Office.
+ Flexible to work outside normal business hours as required.
+ Ability and willingness to travel to project sites in Arizona and other states. Approximately 30% overnight travel. This includes surrounding states and opportunities for travel within the western region
+ Must pass background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.
Preferred Qualifications
+ 40-Hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations Training.
+ Previous mapping experience using air photos, field dimensioning and sketches, and hand-held GPS a plus.
+ Previous data management experience a plus.
+ Working knowledge of Access and/or AutoCAD and/or GIS a plus.
Physical Demands
+ Ability to use hands to operate field equipment.
+ Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds.
+ Must complete employment physical demonstrating ability to meet job requirements, including the ability to wear a respirator, if required.
+ Completion of annual or bi-annual employment physical, as required.
+ Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.
+ Must pass Health and Safety Training and Fleet Vehicle Driving Courses upon hire.
+ Ability and willingness to travel to project sites primarily in Arizona.
