This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Early Career Environmental Engineer for our Tallahassee, Florida office to be involved in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
In this role, you will support multi-site/phase environmental engineering work processes, due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, and environmental permitting projects. You will support processes and infrastructure relating to water supply, hazardous or solid waste disposal, air emission sources, pollution control, and preserving the environment. You will contribute to the preparation of reports and documentation to advise on field conditions, movement, and overall risks to ecological and human health from environmental contamination; and assist with environmental site assessment and classification of contaminated materials, and development of corrective strategies, process and infrastructure, and recommendations to avert degradation of air, surface water, groundwater, soil, and other environmental matrices.
Your Impact
+ Support and perform well-defined methods for collecting, identifying, and compiling environmental data from samples of air, soil, water, sludge, and other matrices for projects, investigations, and surveys.
+ Support and perform professional environmental engineering work and conduct investigations and inspections of air emission sources, hazardous or solid waste facilities, water supply facilities, industrial and agricultural facilities, pollution sources, water resources, and underground storage tanks to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
+ Assist with environmental site assessments (Phase I and II).
+ Research environmental hazmat databases regarding historical property land uses.
+ Prepare tables, charts, reports, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
+ Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
+ Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to prevent, control, restore, clean-up, or address environmental contamination issues or problems.
+ Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of environmental data obtained during field investigations, offering input in developing action plans for mitigation activities.
+ Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
+ Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
+ Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
+ Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, landowners, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
+ Remain current in latest environmental engineering techniques.
+ Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
+ Assist with the development and costing of tasks and scopes of work under the guidance of experienced WSP environmental engineers and/or other environmental professionals.
+ Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Engineering. Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
+ 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
+ Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
+ Strong problem-solving skills with a positive and resilient attitude.
+ Desire for field work and travel (80%), in addition to office work (20%).
+ Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
+ Ability to think critically, question how things work, and why things are done the way they are.
+ Comfortable working in a variety of work settings including remote settings and urban areas in a variety of temperatures and weather conditions with ability to lift to 70 lbs. of field equipment.
+ Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
+ Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, and ability to express ideas effectively and professionally to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
+ Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
+ Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
+ Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, general office software (i.e., MS Word and Excel), spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
+ Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
+ Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
+ Travel will be required depending on project-specific requirements and could include one to three weeks of travel per month.
+ Possess a valid drivers license and be capable of driving work vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Engineer in Training Certification.
+ Familiarity and proficiency with general and discipline-specific design software (i.e., MS Excel and Word, AutoCAD, and ArcGIS,).
+ Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
+ A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
+ Capable of passing 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour training course.
