Summary
The Drywall Framer is responsible for installing wallboards to ceilings or to interior walls of buildings and applying plaster, smoothing out imperfections with trowels and shackle, and applying coats of compound after panels are mounted to walls or ceiling.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepare panels by sawing, drilling, or cutting holes in panels for electrical outlets, air-conditioning units, and plumbing.
- Plans the installation by marking the lines on the drywall and using various measuring instruments such as tape measure.
- Hangs drywall, layout drywall, prepare drywall for paint by making smooth, cleaning up jobsite at completion of job.
- Chalks layout, metal framing, hanging sheet rock, tape, and finishing.
- Trims rough edges from wallboard to maintain even joints, neat and professional appearance.
- Attends and participate in miscellaneous site meetings, sharing knowledge, information, and ideas when needed.
- Operates router, screw guns, and tape measure to complete jobs on daily basis.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid state-issued Driver's License and reliable transportation.
- Ability to accurately read drawings.
- Must have own tools.
- Apprenticeship or equivalent training in the construction industry.
- 2-5 years of experience in metal stud framing preferred.
- Experience in working with specialized tools such as hammer drills, pneumatic nailing guns, and cutting torches.
- Exceptional ability in planning installations and taking accurate measurements.
- In-depth knowledge of fasteners, such as studs, nails, screws, anchors, and connectors.
- Extensive experience in installing drywall panels.
- Keen attention to detail and experience in overseeing general construction workers.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) and construction safety practices.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to work independently and with a work crew.
- Bilingual is a plus (English/Spanish).

Physical: Extended periods of kneeling, bending, standing, and stretching are required. Heavy equipment often must be moved back and forth while working. Stamina and dexterity are essential to this role. The ability to climb ladders, work off ladders, and be within ladder weight restrictions is required. Must be able to regularly lift and/or pull up to 75 lbs.
Dress Code: For safety purposes, must wear well-fitting work pants/jeans and an assigned Optiline shirt. Sturdy steel toe boots/sneakers and any necessary safety gear (gloves, goggles, masks) on-site is required. Must be clean-shaven (a requirement for respirator use), well-groomed and hygienic. Protection is a high priority of all drywall framers, so safety equipment like gloves, goggles, and masks are always used.
Environment: The job functions are primarily carried out at off-site locations at residential homes and commercial properties. The noise level is usually moderate, but loud equipment and construction-type sounds occur. This position works primarily indoors. Adherence to all OSHA and Optiline safety practices and procedures is tremendously important.
