Position Summary:
Utility Workers/Drivers are responsible for supporting the daily operations of food services, including driving for pickups and deliveries, cleaning, stocking, and inventory control.
Shift: (Varies According to Organizational Needs)
Reports To: Food Service Kitchen Supervisor/ Director of Food Services
Direct Reports: No
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for lifting and carrying heavy crates and other containers (50lbs minimum).
- Responsible for keeping storage areas clean and maintaining and keeping food and food services inventory.
- Responsible for the collection of trash from the food service area.
- Responsible for cleaning kitchen and dining area floors, including sweeping, mopping, polishing, and washing walls and appliances, and performing other cleaning tasks as directed per federal, state, and local codes and requirements.
- Required to pick up and deliver purchased and donated food and food-related supplies and deliver prepared food to Programs using the agency's vehicle.
- Responsible for maintaining food service van, including vehicle log and ensuring it’s fueled.
- Responsible for kitchen set up, including, but not limited to, ensuring that trash receptacles, paper supplies, food utensils, appliances, and other necessary items are retrieved from storage and placed appropriately for food preparation.
Education and Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent with at least six (6) months of kitchen experience.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and clean motor vehicle record.
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
- Knowledge of public health safety and food preparation/ handling.
- Required to learn the proper use of institutional care and equipment cleaning.
- Must be well organized, detailed-oriented, task-driven, and able to work independently and set daily priorities by maintaining a weekly and monthly schedule.
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills and a willingness to assist whenever needed.
- Must be able to operate a van in heavy traffic conditions and in varied weather conditions such as rain, sleet, snow, and fog, if necessary, and be familiar with the city.
- Must have the ability to frequently stand, walk, climb, bend, lift (minimum 50lbs), and gross and fine manual dexterity.
- Must work around extremely hot surfaces (i.e., stoves, steam, steam tables, etc.) and cold areas (i.e., walk-in freezers or refrigerators).
- Must be able to respond to emergencies at a moment's notice and without hesitation and participate in other unanticipated situations and special events.
