Join our team in a hybrid role as the Driver and Maintenance Assistant with Polaris Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. This full time position primarily transports our residents to and from different off campus appointments. When not driving, this position will assist with campus maintained responsibilities. In this highly visible role, the person will report directly to the campus Facilities Director.
Driver’s portion of responsibilities:
- Responsible for a 14 passenger vehicle during the transporting of residents by
- Ensures residents safety, satisfaction and during the transporting process.
- Operates equipment safely and in compliance with vehicle licensing regulations.
- Escorts residents to and from the facility and appointments safely, courteously, and in a caring manner.
- Follows established routes and schedules and makes adjustments to meet unanticipated changes, determining the safest and most efficient routes while considering the needs of residents within company guidelines.
- Provides physical assistance to residents when needed for boarding and disembarking of facility vehicles. Ensures that residents are secured during van operation.
- Safely carries out one-person transfers of residents to and from vehicles and inside vehicles.
- Inspects vehicles and maintains them in a clean and safe condition; notifies the Facilities Director of maintenance or repair needs; at the end of the day, ensures that the vehicle has enough fuel for the next morning.
- Maintains the vehicle in a neat and clean condition.
- Maintains standard records, (e.g., logs of passengers and miles driven, service records, gasoline purchases), in conjunction with the management team.
- Promptly reports any concerns regarding the resident to the Nursing home Administrator or other appropriate staff regarding .
- Works in a safe manner, following safety guidelines and standards. Attends safety in-services. Offers guidance or assistance to staff working in an unsafe manner.
- Reports accidents and incidents to the Facilities Director immediately.
- Follows proper infection control procedures and maintains a supply of emergency clean-up kits.
- Maintains a safe and calm environment for residents.
Maintenance Assistant’s portion of responsibilities:
- Replace light bulbs in fixtures as needed
- Complete general preventive maintenance tasks
- Assist in the managing the grounds to assist with the aesthetic look of the campus.
- Completes preventative maintenance checks on the bus and reports any issues immediately to the supervisor
- Checks and completes daily tasks to ensure vehicle is in good operating condition and maintained.
Driver and Maintenance Assistant qualifications are:
· Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
· Must function independently, exhibit flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, families and support agencies.
· Self-Starter
· Excellent communication skills needed
· Must be in compliance with federal, state, and local laws regarding vehicle driving and your driving record.
