About the Job
The Roadway Drainage Engineer will serve as our hydraulics and drainage specialist. They will design and coordinate the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates for various transportation engineering projects involving highways, roadways, streets, and trail design. This role requires considerable contact with governmental agencies, clients, contractors, and project personnel. The ideal candidate must be able to prioritize multiple assignments and work independently to meet objectives and deadlines.
Job Requirements
Duties will include hydrology and hydraulic studies, drainage calculations including collection conveyance design, routing, stormwater management systems design, drainage analysis, and environmental coordination.
Develop accurate, concise, and complete plans, specifications, and reports in accordance with engineering best practices. Prepare drawings, sketches, and diagrams for engineering projects, using AutoCAD Civil3D and Microstation OpenRoads software as needed, for further development by project teams.
Perform technical work associated with design of surface transportation facilities and complete all phases from initial research and planning through final plans and construction support. Prepare associated calculations, reports, and spreadsheets.
Provide quality control reviews and other support to engineering staff, including preparation of cost estimates.
Serve as the lead on projects and/or provide project management support.
Work collaboratively with design team to develop detailed design documents for construction plans.
Maintain open, positive communication with clients and participate in client meetings.
Prepare project deliverables within designated timelines.
Adhere to the requirements of the internal Quality Management System (QMS).
Conduct criteria research, write specifications, and obtain permitting.
Serve as a mentor to less experienced designers and Engineers in Training.
Adhere to all safety requirements for the position.
Obtain and maintain required certifications for the position.

Minimum Qualifications
B.S. degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure in Colorado.
9+ years of progressive experience in drainage design and hydraulics for transportation projects.
Thorough understanding of the Mile High Flood District Urban Storm Drainage Criteria Manuals, and working knowledge of local and regional agency drainage standards and practices.
Advanced level proficiency or higher in use of ArcGIS, HY-8, Flowmaster, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, EPA-SWMM, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microstation, and OpenRoads.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office with strong skills in Excel.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Self-starter with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Flexibility and ability to work effectively on multiple concurrent projects, meeting established timelines.
Must be proficient in reading and understanding surveys, drawings, and technical hydraulic documentation.
Candidates will be asked to provide references and sample projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in water rights and ditch/irrigation design and coordination.
Previous work experience in transportation or road construction industry.
Previous work experience with floodplain modeling and/or floodplain permitting.
Work Environment:
Office environment, frequent use of phones, sitting and typing at a computer workstation for extended periods. Moderate noise level.
Some field work required at construction sites and field offices with regular exposure to all types of weather conditions and noise levels during field work.
This position will be based out of our Denver Metro Headquarters in Thornton, CO.
