About this Role
T.G. Mercer, a Quanta Services Company, is seeking an experienced Domestic Freight Broker to join our team in Spring, TX (The Woodlands area).
The Domestic Freight Broker is ideal for someone with a background in trucking or transportation dispatch who is looking to leverage their experience in a dynamic and growth-oriented environment. The position will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with shippers and carriers to facilitate freight movement, coordinate logistics operations (including tracking shipments and resolving any issues that arise during transit), negotiate rates and contracts with carriers to ensure competitive pricing, etc.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain relationships with shippers and carriers to facilitate freight movement.
- Negotiate rates and contracts with carriers to ensure competitive pricing.
- Stay informed about industry trends, regulations, and best practices, including DOT regulations as applicable.
- Collaborate with sales teams to identify new business opportunities within logistics sales, transportation sales, and 3PL services.
- Coordinate logistics operations, including tracking shipments and resolving any issues that arise during transit.
- Utilize our TMS software (Turvo) or other TMS software providers to manage shipments, track deliveries, and maintain accurate records.
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries and concerns promptly.
- Prepare and implement SOP/SLA for new and existing customers.
- Work with team to solicit feedback from new and existing carriers on rates and available capacity.
- Utilize multiple forms of communication such as telephone, e-mail, instant messenger, and other support software.
What You'll Bring
- Minimum of 2 years of freight brokerage experience. (required)
- Experience growing and managing roughly $25K+ in monthly gross profit book of business.
- Must have experience dealing with the customer-facing side of the business.
- Strong understanding of truckload market and risks involved.
- Excellent negotiation skills to secure favorable terms with carriers.
- Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships through effective communication.
- Proficient in using TMS software for managing client shipments.
- Strong analytical skills to assess market trends and make informed decisions.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations are a plus for relevant industries.
- Proven experience in sales management, with a focus on logistics or transportation sales.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
