CommuniCare Health Services is currently recruiting for a Division EMR Specialist to cover our Ohio and Indiana facilities.
Purpose/belief statement:
This position exists to ensure compliance of resident medical records, maintained in paper and/or electronic format, with the federal and state requirements of participation, standards of professional practice, and CommuniCare policies and procedures. Each resident’s medical record shall contain sufficient documentation to accurately reflect the resident’s condition and the care provided to the resident from admission through discharge. Resident medical records shall be maintained confidentially and protected from unauthorized access, use, theft, and damage. This position must work effectively with all facility team members as well regional and corporate staff in ensuring that work is accomplished in a timely, effective and well organized manner. The position must also efficiently and effectively manage the resources that are available to them in their job.
Job duties & responsibilities
- Collaborates with facility management teams, regional and corporate teams in problem solving, assessing medical records processes and issues, and communicating with other staff.
- Conducts daily, weekly, monthly, annual, and “as needed” compliance audits of paper and electronic medical records in accordance with established processes
- Coordinates training and competency assessments for newly onboarded Medical Records Specialists; conducts training as needed
- Identifies and coordinates the ongoing teaching/training needs of facility Medical Record Specialist in assigned facilities; conducts training as needed
- Conducts in-person and virtual meetings with Medical Records Specialists in assigned facilities as needed to ensure compliance
- Prepares resident medical records for release in accordance with HIPAA standards
- Responsible for status of company EHR scorecard when applicable
- Function within scope of professional practice guidelines and all other disciplinary standards of practice.
- Maintain client confidentiality and function within HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and professional standards for resident medical records
- Must be flexible and willing to travel within the organization at any given time as necessary
- Understanding of resident rights and care procedures and standards, within the scope of medical records.
- Ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Ability to deal tactfully with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.
- Ability and willingness to work harmoniously with all staff.
- Must have patience, tact and enthusiasm, show leadership qualities as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
- Willingness and ability to be flexible in new methods and principles, as well as willingness to incorporate them into existing medical records practices.
- Basic computer literacy and skills
Work environment
- Field based work required. Occasional overnight travel will be required at times with field based assignments.
- May work beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, when necessary.
