Department of Medicine
The Department of Medicine is the largest in the School of Medicine, with nearly 1,100 faculty, including 143 PhDs and 37 MD/PhDs, in 16 divisions. Faculty are key leaders in fulfilling all missions of the school. With nearly $117M in current research funding, the department consistently ranks among the country's top 25 departments of medicine in NIH research funding. Division of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology
The Division of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology (https://apptrkr.com/get_redirect.php?id=4570431&targetURL=https://medschool.cuanschutz.edu/clinical-immunology) is known for award-winning medical care, outstanding educational opportunities, and immunology research. The Division offers a competitive fellowship training program for Allergy and Clinical Immunology in conjunction with National Jewish Health, cutting edge federally-funded, world-class basic science research, a highly active flow cytometry core providing research-based and CLIA-certified laboratory testing and a successful, independent, university-based business, ClinImmune Cell & Gene Therapy (https://apptrkr.com/get_redirect.php?id=4570431&targetURL=https://www.clinimmune.com/who-we-are/) , which provides ASHI and CLIA-accredited, FDA-licensed HLA testing, cord blood banking, materials for cellular therapies and support for approximately 20 active stem cell and cell therapy clinical trials. The Division has 18 primary faculty members (physicians, advanced practice providers and PhD scientists) located at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and within ClinImmune. The six clinical faculty members of the Division offer outstanding clinical care for a wide range of allergic and immunologic disease. At the University of Colorado Hospital, they provide on call consultation services and collaborate with other specialties including pulmonary, otolaryngology, infectious disease, rheumatology, and hematology. They are also engaged in quality improvement efforts to remove inaccurate labeling of patients with penicillin allergy. The division participates in training of fellows from three distinct fellowship programs in Allergy and Clinical Immunology, all affiliated with the University of Colorado School of Medicine. These include the University of Colorado/National Jewish Health internal medicine program, University of Colorado/Children's Hospital Colorado pediatric program, and University of Colorado/National Jewish Health pediatric program. This allows faculty to participate in the clinical education of five first year and four second year fellows per year, and to mentor research projects of one to three fellows per year. Our division also provides exposure to allergy and clinical immunology via electives offered to internal medicine residents and medical students from the University of Colorado. The Division also has 4 board-certified (American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine) clinical faculty based at ClinImmune who provide extensive clinical consults to the solid organ and bone marrow transplant programs (on call 24/7) and train fellows from pathology, transfusion medicine, rheumatology and nephrology.
The Division's research faculty are well funded PIs on NIH research awards (RO1 and RO3) as well as foundation and industry grants in the fields of T cell and innate immunity (beryllium disease, sarcoidosis, HIV pathogenesis, gut microbiome and long-COVID), IgE-based immunology (interface of peanut and tree nut allergy) and clinical immunology (urticaria). In addition, the Division has Co-PIs on NIH-funded Program Projects (PO1), Center Cores (P30) and investigator initiated (RO1) awards. The Division's faculty has recent publications in high impact journals including the J Clin Invest, J Exp Med and JACI. The University of Colorado Allergy and Immunology Practice is an academic practice committed to excellence in patient care, teaching, and clinical research. Providers have years of expertise providing specialized care and see patients with a wide spectrum of atopic and immunologic diseases including asthma, rhinitis, urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis, and non-HIV immunodeficiency, and provide an array of diagnostic services including skin testing to identify aeroallergens and food allergens, skin biopsies, limited patch testing, computerized spirometry, oximetry, intravenous infusions, methacholine challenge testing, and rhinolaryngoscopy.
Education
The Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology Division offers a joint fellowship with National Jewish Health, known worldwide for treating patients with respiratory, immune, and allergic disorders, and for groundbreaking medical research. In 2021, National Jewish Health was ranked #2 hospital in pulmonology on the _U.S. News & World Report_ Best Hospital list.
The primary objective of the fellowship is to train outstanding physician-scientists and clinician-educators who will develop new and additional understanding and knowledge of the mechanisms and treatment of allergic and immunologic diseases. The fellowship entails a two-stage training program with two years devoted to fulfilling the requirements for certification by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. The first year is primarily devoted to clinical training. The second year of the fellowship is dedicated to the completion of clinical requirements and research training, which involves coursework, laboratory research, and writing manuscripts and grants, and is designed to provide the foundation of skills and experience that are necessary for success in academic medicine. The fellowship training is conducted on National Jewish Health and the University of Colorado Denver campuses, with cross-training in Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital.
Position Summary
The University of Colorado School of Medicine seeks a physician of unique vision, enthusiasm, and experience as Division Head of the Division of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology. The ideal candidate for the leadership role is an academic physician with expertise in applying new knowledge to the practice of clinical medicine and a track record of scholarship. The Division Head will be a nationally respected academic allergist/immunologist with demonstrated clinical, translational, or basic research accomplishments. Because the next Division Head will be the leader of a large academic and clinical enterprise, a candidate's experience in leading effective programs is critically important. The Division Head must exhibit the qualities required to be a successful leader in a complex, matrixed environment, including working collaboratively across various organizations and effectively promoting the Division with community providers and leaders, donors, and hospital executives.

Key Responsibilities
The Division Head will be responsible for full program development and oversight, including the Division's clinical, educational, and research program activities. Mentoring junior faculty and fellows, support of quality improvement initiatives, integrating allergy and immunology services among the hospitals, clinical growth, and continued development of clinical translational research related to allergy and immunology are notable priorities.
The Division Head will:
+ Ensure the highest quality and national visibility of the Division's patient care, education research, other scholarly/academic activities, and community outreach programs.
+ Promote the Departmental priorities of interdisciplinary program development, physician-scientist career development, diversity of its workforce, and integrated program development with its affiliates.
+ Assure the mentorship of trainees and faculty with the goals of career development and progression toward promotion.
+ Recruit, retain, and academically develop faculty in the Division.
+ Administer the Division in a fiscally responsible manner within university policies.
+ Personally participate in regularly scheduled meetings of the Department of Medicine's Division Heads and other ad hoc Departmental meetings.
+ Work positively and collaboratively with the University of Colorado Hospital, other affiliated hospitals, the School of Medicine, and the Anschutz Medical campus leadership to foster the growth and development of the multiple missions of the Division.
+ Support, develop, and provide leadership for allergy and immunology initiatives and innovation within the department, school, and the healthcare system.
+ Demonstrate a willingness to work with diverse students, fellows, and colleagues, and mentor diverse students and junior colleagues.
+ The new division head will have the opportunity to develop and implement new programs that address the research and clinical skills required but will also help in the implementation of approaches to mitigate burnout, a critical problem in academic medicine
+ Develop performance metrics for faculty.
+ Support community providers through education and consultation.
Desired Outcomes:
+ In partnership with UCHealth, create and execute a strategic plan that grows and integrates allergy and immunology medical services across the UCHealth system and the Metro Denver Area.
+ Identify key clinical areas for growth that will distinguish the academic medical practice from others.
+ Develop a strategic plan for allergy and immunology research and innovation that spans T0-T4 research.
+ Expand the Division's research portfolio by focusing on multidisciplinary and translational research.
+ Ensure successful leadership and management of disease management teams through collaboration with partners.
+ Building relationships with philanthropic donors.
+ Improve the national ranking of the Division of Allergy and Immunology measured by USWNR and other publicly reported entities.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (All Ranks):
+ Associate Professor or Professor
+ MD/DO or MD/Ph.D. or international equivalent terminal degree with board certification in Allergy and Immunology. Candidates must be eligible for licensure in Colorado.
+ A proven record of administrative and academic leadership abilities, as well as a demonstrated commitment to education and mentoring

+ Clinical Excellence and Eminence
Exceptional reputation for allergy and immunology care and outstanding patient outcomes. Leadership and participation in national or international societies are a plus.
+ A national/international reputation for personal academic accomplishments
A record of outstanding credentials, academic accomplishments within allergy and immunology, and the experience and national reputation necessary to sustain the history of excellence within the Division. A history of federally funded basic or translational research or experience with large, multicenter clinical trials or outcomes research is desirable. A record of recruiting, developing, and retaining clinicians and investigators is crucial.
+ Healthcare Administrative Leadership
Accomplished administrative leadership experience in a complex academic institution. Knowledge of the financial complexities, payer models, and associated reimbursement in providing high-quality, cost-effective specialty healthcare. The Division of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology (https://apptrkr.com/get_redirect.php?id=4570431&targetURL=https://medschool.cuanschutz.edu/clinical-immunology) is known for award-winning medical care, outstanding educational opportunities, and immunology research. The Division offers a competitive fellowship training program for Allergy and Clinical Immunology in conjunction with National Jewish Health, cutting edge federally-funded, world-class basic science research, a highly active flow cytometry core providing research-based and CLIA-certified laboratory testing and a successful, independent, university-based business, ClinImmune Cell & Gene Therapy (https://apptrkr.com/get_redirect.php?id=4570431&targetURL=https://www.clinimmune.com/who-we-are/) , which provides ASHI and CLIA-accredited, FDA-licensed HLA testing, cord blood banking, materials for cellular therapies and support for approximately 20 active stem cell and cell therapy clinical trials. The Division has 18 primary faculty members (physicians, advanced practice providers and PhD scientists) located at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and within ClinImmune. The Division has close ties with the Division of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology (https://apptrkr.com/get_redirect.php?id=4570431&targetURL=https://www.nationaljewish.org/doctors-departments/depts/medicine/allergy-immunology) at National Jewish Health and the Section of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology (https://apptrkr.com/get_redirect.php?id=4570431&targetURL=https://medschool.cuanschutz.edu/pediatrics/sections/allergy-and-immunology) at Children's Hospital Colorado.
The six clinical faculty members of the Division offer outstanding clinical care for a wide range of allergic and immunologic disease. At the University of Colorado Hospital, they provide on call consultation services and collaborate with other specialties including pulmonary, otolaryngology, infectious disease, rheumatology, and hematology. They are also engaged in quality improvement efforts to remove inaccurate labeling of patients with penicillin allergy. The division participates in training of fellows from three distinct fellowship programs in Allergy and Clinical Immunology, all affiliated with the University of Colorado School of Medicine. These include the University of Colorado/National Jewish Health internal medicine program, University of Colorado/Children's Hospital Colorado pediatric program, and University of Colorado/National Jewish Health pediatric program. This allows faculty to participate in the clinical education of five first year and four second year fellows per year, and to mentor research projects of one to three fellows per year. Our division also provides exposure to allergy and clinical immunology via electives offered to internal medicine residents and medical students from the University of Colorado. The Division also has 4 board-certified (American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine) clinical faculty based at ClinImmune who provide extensive clinical consults to the solid organ and bone marrow transplant programs (on call 24/7) and train fellows from pathology, transfusion medicine, rheumatology and nephrology.
The Division's research faculty are well funded PIs on NIH research awards (RO1 and RO3) as well as foundation and industry grants in the fields of T cell and innate immunity (beryllium disease, sarcoidosis, HIV pathogenesis, gut microbiome and long-COVID), IgE-based immunology (interface of peanut and tree nut allergy) and clinical immunology (urticaria). In addition, the Division has Co-PIs on NIH-funded Program Projects (PO1), Center Cores (P30) and investigator initiated (RO1) awards. The Division's faculty has recent publications in high impact journals including the J Clin Invest, J Exp Med and JACI. The Division is closely affiliated with the basic science Division of Immunology (https://apptrkr.com/get_redirect.php?id=4570431&targetURL=https://medschool.cuanschutz.edu/immunology-and-microbiology) in the School of Medicine and many of our faculty hold joint appointments.

Fundamental to the mission is research aimed at understanding the causes of allergic and immunologic disease and the translation of this knowledge to improve patient care.
The University of Colorado Allergy and Immunology Practice is an academic practice committed to excellence in patient care, teaching, and clinical research. Providers have years of expertise providing specialized care and see patients with a wide spectrum of atopic and immunologic diseases including asthma, rhinitis, urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis, and non-HIV immunodeficiency, and provide an array of diagnostic services including skin testing to identify aeroallergens and food allergens, skin biopsies, limited patch testing, computerized spirometry, oximetry, intravenous infusions, methacholine challenge testing, and rhinolaryngoscopy.
Education
The Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology Division offers a joint fellowship with National Jewish Health, known worldwide for treating patients with respiratory, immune, and allergic disorders, and for groundbreaking medical research. In 2021, National Jewish Health was ranked #2 hospital in pulmonology on the _U.S. News & World Report_ Best Hospital list.
The primary objective of the fellowship is to train outstanding physician-scientists and clinician-educators who will develop new and additional understanding and knowledge of the mechanisms and treatment of allergic and immunologic diseases. The fellowship entails a two-stage training program with two years devoted to fulfilling the requirements for certification by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. The first year is primarily devoted to clinical training. The second year of the fellowship is dedicated to the completion of clinical requirements and research training, which involves coursework, laboratory research, and writing manuscripts and grants, and is designed to provide the foundation of skills and experience that are necessary for success in academic medicine. The fellowship training is conducted on National Jewish Health and the University of Colorado Denver campuses, with cross-training in Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital.
Position Summary
The University of Colorado School of Medicine seeks a physician of unique vision, enthusiasm, and experience as Division Head of the Division of Allergy, Asthma and Clinical Immunology. The ideal candidate for the leadership role is an academic physician with expertise in applying new knowledge to the practice of clinical medicine and a track record of scholarship. The Division Head will be a nationally respected academic allergist/immunologist with demonstrated clinical, translational, or basic research accomplishments. Because the next Division Head will be the leader of a large academic and clinical enterprise, a candidate's experience in leading effective programs is critically important. The Division Head must exhibit the qualities required to be a successful leader in a complex, matrixed environment, including working collaboratively across various organizations and effectively promoting the Division with community providers and leaders, donors, and hospital executives.

Key Responsibilities
The Division Head will be responsible for full program development and oversight, including the Division's clinical, educational, and research program activities. Mentoring junior faculty and fellows, support of quality improvement initiatives, integrating allergy and immunology services among the hospitals, clinical growth, and continued development of clinical translational research related to allergy and immunology are notable priorities.
The Division Head will:
+ Ensure the highest quality and national visibility of the Division's patient care, education research, other scholarly/academic activities, and community outreach programs.
+ Promote the Departmental priorities of interdisciplinary program development, physician-scientist career development, diversity of its workforce, and integrated program development with its affiliates.
+ Assure the mentorship of trainees and faculty with the goals of career development and progression toward promotion.
+ Recruit, retain, and academically develop faculty in the Division.
+ Administer the Division in a fiscally responsible manner within university policies.
+ Personally participate in regularly scheduled meetings of the Department of Medicine's Division Heads and other ad hoc Departmental meetings.
+ Work positively and collaboratively with the University of Colorado Hospital, other affiliated hospitals, the School of Medicine, and the Anschutz Medical campus leadership to foster the growth and development of the multiple missions of the Division.
+ Support, develop, and provide leadership for allergy and immunology initiatives and innovation within the department, school, and the healthcare system.
+ Demonstrate a willingness to work with diverse students, fellows, and colleagues, and mentor diverse students and junior colleagues.
+ The new division head will have the opportunity to develop and implement new programs that address the research and clinical skills required but will also help in the implementation of approaches to mitigate burnout, a critical problem in academic medicine
+ Develop performance metrics for faculty.
+ Support community providers through education and consultation.
Desired Outcomes:
+ In partnership with UCHealth, create and execute a strategic plan that grows and integrates allergy and immunology medical services across the UCHealth system and the Metro Denver Area.
+ Identify key clinical areas for growth that will distinguish the academic medical practice from others.
+ Develop a strategic plan for allergy and immunology research and innovation that spans T0-T4 research.
+ Expand the Division's research portfolio by focusing on multidisciplinary and translational research.
+ Ensure successful leadership and management of disease management teams through collaboration with partners.
+ Building relationships with philanthropic donors.
+ Improve the national ranking of the Division of Allergy and Immunology measured by USWNR and other publicly reported entities.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications (All Ranks):
+ Associate Professor or Professor
+ MD/DO or MD/Ph.D. or international equivalent terminal degree with board certification in Allergy and Immunology. Candidates must be eligible for licensure in Colorado.
+ A proven record of administrative and academic leadership abilities, as well as a demonstrated commitment to education and mentoring

Preferred Qualifications (All Ranks):
+ Clinical Excellence and Eminence
Exceptional reputation for allergy and immunology care and outstanding patient outcomes. Leadership and participation in national or international societies are a plus.
+ A national/international reputation for personal academic accomplishments
A record of outstanding credentials, academic accomplishments within allergy and immunology, and the experience and national reputation necessary to sustain the history of excellence within the Division. A history of federally funded basic or translational research or experience with large, multicenter clinical trials or outcomes research is desirable. A record of recruiting, developing, and retaining clinicians and investigators is crucial.
+ Healthcare Administrative Leadership
Accomplished administrative leadership experience in a complex academic institution. Knowledge of the financial complexities, payer models, and associated reimbursement in providing high-quality, cost-effective specialty healthcare. Salary and Benefits:

+ Associate Professor: $230,000 to $280,000 per year
+ Professor: $270,000 to $350,000 per year
