Division Director of Midwifery @ Brown University and Women Women & Infants Hospital - Care New England

The Department of OB-GYN at Women and Infants Hospital in Rhode Island and the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University is searching for a Division Director of Midwifery. The Director of the Division of Midwifery will be responsible for assuring high-quality, compassionate, evidence-based patient care and medical education by our Midwifery staff at our in-patient and out-patient sites. The right candidate is an accomplished leader who has experience working with underserved families, and who is an outstanding clinician, educator, and mentor.

• An estimated 50% effort providing clinical care, with the remaining 50% effort spent on administrative and academic duties.
• Responsible for assuring the quality and sustainability of our midwifery-led programs, including outpatient, antepartum, labor and delivery and postpartum services, as well as development of our Midwifery Alongside Unit (Alongside Unit) and Obstetric Triage.
• Support and collaborate with other leaders in the midwifery group, including practice leads.
• Maintain a stable and productive work environment by obtaining feedback from midwives and other department employees regarding job satisfaction.
• Support development of the Midwifery Birthing Center (the Alongside Unit).
• Support development of a midwifery lead Obstetric Triage Unit.
• Supervise midwifery operations by establishing and monitoring staffing patterns to assure cost-effective utilization of resources in meeting patient care standards.
• Participate in OB-GYN department clinical efforts, ambulatory work groups, and labor and delivery work groups.
• Maintain clinical skills through the provision of direct patient care.
• Organize midwifery staff to meet the educational needs of the department.
• Oversee the Midwifery Practice Leads (Associate Midwife Directors) in ensuring the quality and effectiveness of midwifery participation in medical and midwifery education as well as in supervising quality assurance and data monitoring.
• Support research and scholarly activities.
• Collaborate with Development office and participate in grant-writing.

Minimum qualifications:

• Certification in Midwifery from the American Midwifery Certification Board
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant clinical experience
• Leadership and management experience and Experience with Teaching Residents and/or Medical Students

The department consists of community-based faculty physicians in the community practices and hospital-based full-time faculty organized by divisions of Academic Specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Urogynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. The robust residency training program includes 32 diverse residents. The department is home to all four American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology accredited fellowships as well as strong programs in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic surgery and Family Planning through superb faculty.
