Retail District Manager
Basic Function: To assist the Human Resources Manager, Office Manager and Business Manager with all functions required for opening, supervising, running and closing the Retail sales program in a profitable and productive manner.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Assist with the interviewing and hiring of Garden Center Leads and Garden Center Employees. Both online and in person.
- Assist HR in anyway needed with the onboarding of rehired employees.
- Complete new hire employment paperwork on rehired and new hired retail staff as needed by the HR Manager.
- Help Manage the staff schedules for all stores within an assigned district.
- Be fully trained in the Garden Center Employee and Garden Center Lead functions, to include mastering all Standard Operating Procedures and Policies.
- Provide training for the Garden Center Leads and Garden Center Employees prior to opening and continuous training and feedback during the season.
- Lead initial store set ups, to include building corrals, display benches, inventorying and pricing product.
- Answer standard Garden Center Employee/Lead questions over the phone, through email and on site.
- Provide general day to day leadership to all retail staff within an assigned district both in person and over the phone.
- Spend significant time each week working at every store to keep skills up to date and provide opportunities to help the staff grow and learn from you.
- Fill in at stores when needed to fill coverage gaps.
- Complete store inspections and provide feedback to the local crews and to HQ.
- Lead the end of season closing processes.
- Provide feedback to HR regarding Garden Center Employee/Lead performance.
- Any other duties assigned to be of assistance to Kaw Valley Management.
- Learn about our products and plants, continuously learning and growing your knowledge of our products.
- Be available for training and learning as needed by the HQ Management Team.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures and practices.
Essential Requirements:
- Must be 19 years of age or older.
- Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work full time 40-50 hours per week Jan-mid Feb at least 6 days a week between 8am and 7pm.
- Ability to work 7 days a week between 5am and 12am late Feb to early July.
- Ability for occasional overnight travel (15%-20%).
- Basic computer skills (internet, email, word processing, excel are a must).
- Basic comfort with general technology (computers, tablets, printers, cell phones, etc.)
- Ability to communicate with customers, other peers, and management.
- Ability to communicate over the phone
- Able to resolve complaints and problems as they arise from customers and staff.
- The ability to stand on your feet for 10 hours days, on concrete parking lots.
- The ability to lift 20 pounds repeatedly for at least 4 hours
- The ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- The ability to stoop and bend repeatedly for several hours.
- The ability to work in the outdoors, which could include weather as cold at 25 degrees, as hot as 95 degrees, and long-term exposure to the sun.
Preferred (But Not Required) Experience:
- Basic gardening/plant experience.
- Prior retail/register experience.
- Prior leadership experience.
- Prior scheduling experience.
- Prior interviewing experience.
Travel to stores will be done in a company provided vehicle and company provided fuel card. Company will also provide a phone and computer.
Salary $37,224 for 33 weeks of work.
Health/Dental Insurance all 12 months of the year (premium for the employee is 100% paid by the employer).

This is a management position only actively working full time Jan-mid August. The salary for this position will be paid during the 33 weeks the District Manager works, but this position will still receive Health Insurance Benefits all year, and is classfied as full time with our company. District Managers are free to enjoy the time off or hold another position during the off season.
