The NC Wildlife Resources Commission Mission Statement is to conserve North Carolina’s wildlife resources and their habitats and provide programs and opportunities that allow hunters, anglers, boaters and other outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy wildlife-associated recreation. The Commission is the regulatory agency responsible for the enforcement of N.C. fishing, hunting, trapping and boating laws. The NCWRC employs over 680 full-time staff across the state, including wildlife and fisheries biologists and technicians, wildlife law enforcement officers, wildlife educators, communication specialists, customer service, information technology, and administrative professionals.
The mission of the Division of Wildlife Management is to conserve wildlife and wildlife habitat, to provide information for the development and implementation of sound wildlife management policies and to develop and implement programs for the wise use of wildlife resources. The Operations Program is responsible for ensuring agency programs and activities related to wildlife management and ecology are administered to local landscapes, landholders, other public and private entities outside the agency, and the hunting and non-hunting public.
The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is seeking applicants for a Conservation Biologist II (District Wildlife Biologist) for the Wildlife Management Division-District 1. The primary purpose of the District Wildlife Biologist is to plan, organize, direct, and participate in the management of wildlife resources within the counties of WRC District 1 while also supporting these activities in the larger geographic area of the WRC Coastal Region and statewide.
The District Wildlife Biologist duties may include:
This position is HOME-BASED. The workstation for this position is the employee’s home-based office using an agency-provided computer. The employee in this position is expected to provide home office space in accordance with WRC and State policies. To ensure coverage of the entire district, this home-based office should be in one of the following District 1 counties: Chowan, Perquimans, Bertie, or Martin. Alternative locations may be considered. Night work, weekend work and/or overnight travel may be required on occasion. A state vehicle is provided to perform the duties of this position.
A normal Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, schedule is associated with this position.

The District Wildlife Biologist duties may include:
- technical guidance related to wildlife species to private individuals, governmental agencies, NGOs, and other constituents as appropriate;
- implementation and interpretation of biological surveys and monitoring projects;
- handling of live and dead wildlife;
- development and review of hunting regulations;
- participation in compliance inspections for multiple agency permit programs;
- the use of immobilization drugs or other techniques to restrain, capture and/or handle live animals;
- wildlife disease/mortality investigations, including field necropsies;
- preparing and presenting wildlife programs to a variety of audiences.
- examining management implications relative to population dynamics and status so regulations, conservation programs, and associated policies may be based on sound and reliable data.
