About the Job
ECI has an opportunity for one engineer to join our team in San Diego, CA to support San Diego Gas and Electric's (SDGE) Electric Distribution Planning (EDP) department as an Overhead and Underground Distribution Coordinator. This role is responsible for managing multiple distribution projects from start to finish. You will be responsible for establishing project scopes, managing project budgets and schedules, coordinating between various teams and stakeholders, and ensuring the ultimate quality of the final deliverables. Additionally, this role involves providing training and guidance to team members and sharing your technical knowledge (particularly on PLS CADD). The majority of the project work will be done remotely (or in the ECI Office initially for training); however, you will need to be located in San Diego for regular in-person meetings and site visits.
Project Management and Coordination Responsibilities:
- Simultaneously lead and manage multiple distribution projects through their entire life cycle (initiation, scoping, design, construction, and close out) to ensure high quality projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Define and communicate clear project scope based on project needs. Clearly define project design expectations, requirements, design needs, and expected deliverables.
- Assist with creating and maintaining schedules and cost estimates for construction, design, and material.
- Assign projects to approved contracted design firms based on a thorough evaluation of their capabilities, expertise, and available resources.
- Create, draft, review, and negotiate distribution design contracts to establish clear project expectations of designers.
- Schedule and lead 1-3 project site visits between various project stakeholders to identify and establish protect requirements and potential issues.
- Actively monitor the progress of each project using SDGE standard management tools and methodologies.
- Proactively identify potential risks and issues. Direct and guide team members to address problems quickly and effectively as they arise.
- Identify and secure all required permits and approvals from city, county, and state organizations. Collaborate with internal and external team members to create documents or easement drawings as required for the approval process.
- Coordinate with internal departments such as Electrical Design, Fusing, SCADA, Substation, Transmission, Project Compliance, Civil, and Land Services.
- Identify and maintain communication with project stakeholders through in person meetings, site visits, written reports, and emails.
- Support material procurement by understanding equipment requirements, limitations, availability, and lead times.
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance, technical expertise, and training to SDGE staff.
- Lead regular project meetings, deliver presentations, and effectively communicate project needs to various audiences.
- Track and provide feedback on project team performance. Create a collaborative team environment that focuses on accountability and high-quality work.
Quality Control / Quality Assurance Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain project reports and records based on SDGE requirements.
- Conduct reviews of construction packages and PLS CADD models at project miles stones (30%, 60%, 90%, and FNL).
- Ensure all projects adhere to federal, state, local, and SDGE codes, standards, and safety regulations.
Minimum Requirements:
- 3 years of PLS CADD experience.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and general computer literacy.
- Occasional travel/driving is required; therefore, the successful applicant must meet ECI's auto insurance carrier requirements.
