Director, Software Engineering - WEX

About the Team/Role

We are seeking a seasoned Director of Engineering in the WEX Mobility Engineering organization. This role will lead the engineering team for one of the North American (NA) Mobility suite of products. NA Mobility team spans across USA and Brazil. Mobility systems provide SaaS and API solutions to various customers in North America. WEX Mobility products enable credit issuance to fleet companies and their employees in the form of WEX Credit Cards, which can be used in fueling stations and select other merchants. At WEX, we provide fleet managers with the ability to configure spend controls that restrict fleet members to use their card only at preconfigured merchants and for configured products families.

How you’ll make an impact:

1. Develop, drive and execute a long-term vision and strategy for the WEX NA Mobility platform.
2. Define and implement a comprehensive architectural roadmap for the NA Mobility platform, aligning with business objectives and industry best practices.
3. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, empowerment, and continuous learning within the engineering teams.
4. Continuously challenge the status quo and implement mechanisms to reduce time-to-market using efficient engineering methods.
5. Collaborate with other Mobility engineering teams to reuse development practices and components to reduce duplication.
6. Craft, lead, manage, and grow high-performance engineering teams. Hire, coach, promote, and retain high performers to achieve WEX goals.
7. Work closely with product and commercial partners to drive, prioritize, and work backwards from the customer requirements and exceed expected outcomes.
8. Drive effective monthly, weekly, and quarterly mechanisms to plan, execute, and audit workstreams.
9. Establish a robust and clear engineering roadmap to maintain clarity and motivation for the engineering team. Maintain career growth plans and provide monthly and quarterly feedback for individuals’ continual progress.
10. Establish measurement of metrics-driven dev productivity across the NA Mobility engineering team.
11. Comfortably present, influence, and communicate to the senior leadership team. Provide regular updates and insights to senior leadership on the challenges and opportunities within the Mobility domain.

Experience you'll bring:

1. Master’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
2. 10 years of experience in software engineering with 5 years of engineering management experience.
3. Expertise in rapid development and deployment using cloud computing platforms such as AWS or Azure.
4. Strong understanding of security and compliance requirements in cloud and data environments.
5. Excellent leadership, team-building, and dynamic decision-making skills.
6. Ability to deal with ambiguity and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience building credit card products, or experience developing solutions in a scheme/network.
2. Experience building or managing fleet systems.
3. Experience working on closed-loop card systems.
4. Experience working with geographically distributed teams, and ability to craft self-managing distributed teams.
