Director, Security Design Engineering - Control Risks

This role may be based in Houston, Chicago, NYC, Washington DC, or the San Francisco Bay Area.
This role provides leadership and management to the consultants focused on delivering physical security and oversees the development and quality control of our consulting projects and services through the entire project lifecycle across the North America region.
This role requires both commercial and technical expertise, as well as the capability to manage the complex, multi-disciplinary delivery of security design engineering and physical security-related projects and the consultants responsible for delivering them.
This individual will be required to support the development and implementation of a regional strategy that aligns with business goals by positioning the design engineering team as the preferred provider of these services in the Americas.
The role also requires developing and evolving our existing client relationships, facilitating the introduction and provision of additional Control Risks services when appropriate.
Tasks and responsibilities
Management of consultants and project delivery: Effectively manage and drive the commercial and quality aspects of projects by supporting the delivery consultants, conducting peer reviews and providing feedback. Host and chair regular team meetings with consultants to ensure that:
- Projects are being delivered in collaboration with the client, design team and relevant stakeholders
- Projects are delivered on time and within budget, and that targets for profitability, utilization and realization are met
- Project and resource planning are optimized to maximize team utilization
Consulting: Act as the project manager on assignments, owning problems and providing project-specific problem-solving:
- Lead technical security reviews, audits, design surveys, installation inspections and approvals, and other similar tasks, working at client sites and in the office
- Lead the design of physical, technical and electronic security systems at an appropriate level, working with specialized engineers in project design teams
- Maintain and develop long-term client relationships; coordinate with key account managers
Business development:
- Build and cultivate a strong network of current and prospective client contacts in the design, construction and infrastructure sectors, and consistently strengthen the company’s position with them to support business development and secure higher-fee engagements
Knowledge and experience
- Deep and comprehensive understanding of and experience delivering physical and electronic security design consulting across all AIA stages and for multiple sectors within the built environment in the Americas
- Thorough knowledge of current national and international standards and installation practices
- Experience working on projects in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Middle East and Africa
- Thorough knowledge of and experience in designing physical, technical and electronic security systems.
- Substantial project management experience in security consulting and installations within the built environment
- Strong interpersonal, relationship-building and client management skills
- Commercially astute in planning and pricing projects in terms of time, resources and outcome
- Knowledge of and experience using design-related software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, MS Project) and other relevant software
- Knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2) and experience applying them
Qualifications and specialist skills
- Holder of a degree in engineering or a related discipline
- Professional qualifications and membership in field
- Project management skills in a commercial or consulting environment
- ASIS PSP certified (or holder of a similar security design-related qualification)
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to write reports to a high professional standard
- Ability to communicate with clients and colleagues using a range of techniques to achieve positive results

The base salary range for this position is $165,000-$175,000 per year. Exact compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
