In partnership with the ACROI, oversee research informatics for Offi ce of Research Operations and the SYNERGY Clinical andTranslational Science Institute. Support senior leadership by researching and proposing to the ACROI strategic innovations for theresearch data ecosystem. Lead data science analytics and data engineering team. Work closely with existing IT teams to ensure thesecurity of research data and compliance with Dartmouth Hitchcock policies, state, federal, and international regulations and bestpractices. Work with Dartmouth researchers to discover fruitful data integration paths and perform due diligence on current andemerging data storage and integration services and applications. Support data governance and provenance eff orts across theresearch enterprise including at the interface between Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Health. Provide guidance and directionfor data analysts and data engineers through hands-on support and mentoring.

Responsibilities:- SYNERGY Role:
- Lead the daily management of SYNERGY research informatics
- Participate as a member of the SYNERGY management team
- Hire, train, mentor, and manage SYNERGY research informatics staff. Mentor and coach colleagues and partners
- Coordinate with other Dartmouth Hitchcock and Dartmouth College research informatics teams, including Analytics Institute, Epic for Research, Dartmouth Cancer Center, and College Research Computing.
- Lead the Dartmouth-wide Healthcare Advisory Group for Research Informatics at Dartmouth (HAGRID) meetings when the ACROI is unavailable.
- Support researchers and research support staff by offering brief tutorials on the use of data analysis and engineering tools, such as R, Python, natural language processing (NLP), or machine learning (ML) techniques.
- Oversee SYNERGY Informatics consult services.
- ORO Role:
- Participate as a member of the ORO management team.
- Lead the Dartmouth Hitchcock Research Informatics Data Governance (RIDGe) team.
- Assist with preparing grant applications and scholarly work (publications, presentations, etc.) in support of Dartmouth Hitchcock and its partner organizations.
- Support organizational research administration through continuous process improvement, process automation, and optimization.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Collaborates with other IT leadership at Dartmouth Hitchcock, including Director of Analytics Institute, Chief Health Information Officer, Chief Information Officer, and Research Computing leadership at Dartmouth College.
- Data Analytics:
- Create a strong ML/NLP environment in response to researcher needs.
- Research and propose changes for the data analytics ecosystem to keep current with industry best practices.
- Effectively communicate results and educates technical and non-technical individuals, senior research leaders, and others through reports and presentations.
- Work closely with the data analysts, data engineers, and other units to continuously improve the self-serve data platforms for DH and Dartmouth College researchers, where they can access data (self-serve deidentified or provided by data analysts) in a user-friendly, secure environment with appropriate tools provisioned.
- Data Engineering and Integration:
- Oversee research use of informatics platforms, including Granite, Cosmos, TriNetX, eIRB, eReg, EDC, OnCore, and REDCap in partnership with Dartmouth Hitchcock IS and College Research Computing.
- Proactively seek out relevant and useful data to be integrated as appropriate to support researcher needs.
- Research and propose changes for the data engineering ecosystem to keep current with industry best practices, including managing vendor relations.
- Keeps current with trends in cloud-based computing and routinely assesses relevance for enterprise needs.
- Support data engineers by extracting, manipulating, validating, and integrating data from various sources.
- Data Security and Governance:
- Responsible for updating the Research Data Handbook and related tools.
- Keep up with emerging cybersecurity trends and threats and use continuous learning processes to maintain a secure data ecosystem.
- Ensure data analysts and data engineers adopt a privacy-first approach to their work to ensure a high level of data security.
- Represent the interests and requirements of the ACROI on data governance issues.
- Adhere to data standards and sharing policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree or equivalent plus 15 years of experience; or PhD plus 10 years of relevant experience.
- Experience working in a health research setting.
- Familiarity with clinical terminologies and ontologies including ICD-10, LOINC, RxNorm, SNOMED.
- Familiarity with enterprise data warehouse methods and data engineering best practices.
- Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Expertise in R and/or Python for biostatistics, natural language processing, and machine learning.
- Familiarity with Epic EHR databases (Clarity, Caboodle) preferred.
- Complete Cosmos Data Architect and SlicerDicer superuser training within 3 months of hire
- Certification in data/cyber security.
