POSITION SUMMARY:
To provide effective leadership and management of Research Contracts and Industry Agreements in compliance with relevant laws and institutional policies governing the drafting, reviewing, negotiation, and management of research and sponsored project agreements. Engage with stakeholders to facilitate the contracting process aligned with the institution's strategic priorities to grow research; provide constructive input on legal contract documents, including but not limited to terms and conditions, indemnification, intellectual property, etc. Manage complex processes across functions, including risk assessment that may arise from internal or external performance issues.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Contracts/Agreements:
- Oversees, drafts, reviews, and negotiates a wide variety of research-related agreements. Guides the BMC research community on research-related agreements and explains which agreement will be the most appropriate to address researchers' needs.
- Ensures the timely and professional conclusion of agreement negotiations to enable prompt project start; informs relevant departments and offices of agreement execution. Ensures agreements comply with BMC policies, state and federal regulations, maintains a database of approved templates to be used as standards for Contracts & Industry Agreements.
- Serves as lead liaison with the Office of General Counsel and external partners to manage terms and conditions appropriate for contracts and industry agreements. Analyzes and solves any contract-related problems that may arise with internal or external parties. Proactively monitors agreements and timely processes close-outs, extensions, or renewals.
- Collaborates closely with the Office of Procurement on contract activities as needed. Cultivates relationships with sponsors and collaborating institutions and serves as the subject matter expert and singular point of contact for matters concerning research contracts and agreements.
- Fosters and maintains liaisons between researchers and sponsors. Meets with researchers and administrative teams to discuss contracting matters, including business terms and risk management, such as financial, legal, and security risks. Assists administrative teams in ensuring that contractual obligations are understood and complied with.
Staff Development:
- Develops, implements, and monitors a comprehensive training program to include career ladder development. Addresses team training needs based on team member performance and quality reviews.
- Implements personnel actions (e.g., hiring, training, promotion, termination, and organizational changes) following BMC's personnel policies and procedures.
Strategy/Business Development:
- Evaluates ongoing activities and services using customer feedback, system reports and metrics. Reports performance results to the Executive Director.
- Coordinates the development of relevant website content for assigned area with emphasis on customer service.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- JD
- Legal, research administration in an academic medical center, nonprofit and contracting preferred
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required:
- Bar license
Experience:
- Seven (7) years of related experience, including research administration in a nonprofit academic medical center(s). Research sponsored project agreements and contracts review, drafting and negotiation.
- Previous experience working with research contract regulations and related laws.
- Knowledge of research administration practices is required
- Formal training and experience in sponsored research administration/intellectual property management and related topics.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Experience with technical applications (e.g., Microsoft Excel), word processing (e.g., Microsoft Word), and presentation software (e.g., Microsoft PowerPoint) Vizio, Project Management tools.
- Demonstrated personnel management experience.
- Ability to work independently and to accept responsibility for complex and sensitive decision-making as it relates to the position.
