Job Summary and Qualifications
The Director of Quality and Safety acts as principal quality leader. Actively collaborates with the vice president of quality and compliance and Chief Medical Officer for Chippenham and Johnston-Willis Hospitals to assure standard practices across both hospitals. Leads cross campus quality activities as directed, and expands oversight in absence of VP. Role is directly involved in activities that forward the organization meeting or exceeding organizational quality goals (process measures, outcomes, efficiency, service).
- Leads Quality and Compliance Department staff, as members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, to best support successful execution of performance improvement plans. Focuses on professional growth and development of highly engaged Quality and Compliance team to maximize organizational contributions.
- In collaboration with interdisciplinary hospital and physician leadership, staff and the Clinical Forum coordinates (plans, implements and monitors) a comprehensive, effective performance improvement program. Mentors colleagues regarding useful performance improvement and/or process change strategies.
- Facilitates interdisciplinary performance improvement initiatives using appropriate techniques and tools to evaluate and improve effectiveness of hospital care delivery systems. Acts as a catalyst to implement and sustain changes for improvement. Champions continual improvement, adjusting goals to remain competitive in comparison to local and national performance.
- Fosters culture of safety and continuous quality improvement acting as a resource for hospital and physician leadership and staff. Encourages hospital and medical staff involvement in problem identification and resolution. Supports transparency congruent with peer review and Patient Safety Organization, including participation in disclosure of hospital events.
- Continually updates and shares knowledge of evolving healthcare quality environment including pay for performance programs and associated best practices. Strong verbal and written communication using multiple formats. Abstracts, formats and communicates data from internal and external sources to a variety of audiences. Demonstrates in-depth data analysis, process evaluation and redesign, and valid measure of success.
- Partners with hospital and physician leadership and staff to remain survey ready, based on standards and guidelines defined by state and national accreditation and regulatory agencies. Adept in authoring and executing acceptable project and/or action plans. Identifies opportunities to highlight hospital signature services in positive manner.
Experience & Education:
- Required - 3 years acute care quality leadership experience
- Preferred - Clinical practice (nursing, pharmacy, therapy) for 3 or more years.
- Required - Bachelor's degree in healthcare related field
- Preferred - Master's degree in healthcare related field.
