PURPOSE -
This position is responsible for the direction, organizing, oversight and implementation of the Corporation’s Quality Assurance, Food Safety, and Sanitation Programs. This position is accountable to insure the production of safe products that meet regulatory requirements and our customer’s requirements.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES –
- Develop and Implement Strategic Plans, Policies and Procedures that assure the Food Safety Quality Management System is developed and implemented.
- Support and review Food Safety Quality Plans developed at each manufacturing site.
- Audit the Corporation’s Processing Facilities for regulatory compliance and compliance to the StarKist Food Safety Quality Management System.
- Manage the Supplier Risk Management program and work with Procurement to assure vendors go through a risk management process before approving. Manage vendor’s documentation and information so that their materials (e.g. ingredients, pouches, etc.) may be used in the Corporation’s Products.
- Commission new products and product line extensions.
- Work with government agencies and auditors (e.g., FDA and NOAA) and manufacturing plant personnel to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to resolve any negative quality, sanitation or safety reports
- Periodically review and revise HACCP plans for StarKist plants and sister production facilities that supply StarKist.
- Provide technical support to the Operations, Quality Assurance, Marketing, PPIC, Logistics and Research & Development Groups.
- Technical and scientific resource for the company and the manufacturing sites.
- Work with Marketing and Research & Development to develop and establish finished product standards.
- Conduct product cuttings to assess compliance to standards.
- Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators.
- Manage external audits such as BRC & FDA, and primary company contact for company course of action and response.
- Provide necessary direction for all process deviations correction at factories.
- Issue product disposition decision for all process deviated products.
- Manage and enforce the thermal processing parameters set forth for all products. Conduct routine audits to ensure thermal processing regulations are adhered to.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/COMPENTENCIES -
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher degree in food sciences and technology or related fields with emphasis in food engineering and microbiology.
- Minimum 10 years hands-on experiences within the food processing industry with an emphasis in Food Safety and Quality Assurance.
- Must be able to travel by plane - approximate travel 50%. (includes international, passport required)
- Must be capable of travel for extended periods (extended: 5-15 days)
- Knowledge in sanitation, integrated pest management, and laboratory methods.
- Knowledge of Statistical Process Control.
- Experience in development and implementation of HACCP Programs.
- Strong knowledge of food preservation methods and equipment.
- Knowledgeable in GFSI audit requirements; specifically, BRC, ISO22000, SQF.
- Knowledge of federal regulations pertaining to food preservation and microbiological aspects of food manufacturing.
