We are actively seeking a Director of People Operations to lead our Human Resources team at BuildAbility. In this role, you will collaborate with senior leadership to align HR strategies with organizational goals, support all departments, and cultivate a culture of excellence that reflects our mission and values.

As the Director of People Operations, you will:
- Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with BuildAbility’s mission and long-term strategic goals.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to develop and implement cross-departmental strategies that enhance organizational effectiveness and foster a culture of excellence.
- Foster a team-first culture by promoting collaboration, inclusivity, and open communication across all levels of the organization, ensuring alignment with BuildAbility’s mission and values.
- Serve as a senior business partner to departments needing additional HR support.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for HR team members, empowering them to grow in their roles and contribute to organizational success.
- Source, screen, and interview for open positions for assigned departments, as well as at the leadership level. Extend and negotiate job offers.
- Own the employee open enrollment process including partnering with benefits broker to ensure all employee benefit issues are successfully addressed and conducting the benefits orientation.
- Monitor changing legislation in California and local geographies, updating the employee handbook as needed and authoring required HR policies.
- Maintain a working knowledge of program regulations such as staffing ratios, licensing requirements, and program design requirements.
- Develop targeted retention strategies for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) and other critical roles, achieving measurable turnover reduction.
- Oversee training programs aligned with organizational goals, focusing on leadership development and operational excellence.
- Market price positions, ensuring market competitiveness of employee pay. Recommend merit and equity pay adjustments. Suggest appropriate promotional increases to align with market.
- Champion initiatives in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) to build a supportive and inclusive organizational culture.
- Oversee and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance.
- Support the administration of payroll processing.

Required Qualifications:
- Progressive experience in HR leadership roles, with at least three years in non-profit organizations.
- Proven track record in driving HR strategies that improve employee engagement and organizational outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain a team-first culture by driving initiatives that enhance collaboration, inclusivity, and employee engagement.
- Ability to lead, manage, and mentor junior-level HR staff.
- Demonstratable forward-thinking HR program development within the non-profit sector.
- Excellent project management skills to ensure successful development and implementation of HR programs.
- People-oriented and results-driven.
- Demonstrable experience with HR metrics.
- Knowledge of HR systems.
- Ability to champion HR programs.
- Excellent active listening, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with employees at all levels and champion a culture of mutual respect and collaboration.
- In-depth knowledge of labor law and HR best practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Expertise in HRIS, ATS, and data-driven decision-making through HR metrics.
- Master’s degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or related field.
- HR Certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR),
