About the Job
Alliance Resource Group is partnered with a long-time client in the software industry for a Director of Tax to lead their in-house provision tax work.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct technical reviews of partnership and corporate federal and multi-state tax returns, ensuring compliance with SOX requirements and reviewing all related work papers.
- Collaborate with accounting and finance departments to gather and provide necessary information for tax planning and compliance reporting.
- Perform technical reviews of income tax provisions in line with ASC 740.
- Review quarterly and annual SEC filings and disclosures, including completing the audit disclosure checklist.
- Mentor, develop, and oversee the Tax Manager, as well as recruit new talent as needed for team expansion.
- Research federal and state tax legislation to assess its impact on the Company’s compliance and reporting requirements.
- Oversee indirect tax compliance and reporting, including conducting research, analysis, and communicating sales and use tax matters to senior management.
- Manage workflow with external tax service providers, ensuring timely filing and reporting of tax-related items through collaboration with accounting and finance departments.
- Analyze the impact of business structure changes and transactions on income tax reporting.
- Identify and implement process improvements and best practices within the tax department.
- Conduct monthly reviews and analysis of partnership tax distribution calculations, communicating with partners as needed.
- Review quarterly TRA liability calculations, valuation allowances, and tax provisions, working with external tax service providers.
- Manage external tax providers to prepare studies on R&D tax credits and Sec. 174 capitalization/amortization.
- Handle external tax audits, including but not limited to income, sales and use, and property taxes.
- Serve as a strategic tax partner, proactively identifying opportunities for tax savings and providing feedback through ad hoc analysis or presentations.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in federal and state taxation.
- Experience in the preparation and review of federal and state tax returns for corporations and partnerships.
- Active CPA preferred.
- Proficiency in accounting for income taxes under ASC 740.
- Previous experience with a Big 4 or large CPA firm preferred.
- Management experience.
- Strong research and writing skills.
- Analytical skills to develop and implement improvements or recommendations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to handle highly sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with excellent organizational abilities.
- Advanced Excel skills required.
