Summary...
The Director of Systems Architecture is responsible for leading the overall Managed Network Services (MNS) engineering practice. The Director provides business relationship management support for Verizon partners by providing technical governance and guidance, enforcing Verizon engineering best practices, thought leadership and technical oversight.
In this role, you will act as the network engineering business relationship manager, owning and leading the technical governance of the engineering practice with the overall goal of enabling our partners to deliver Verizon Managed Network Services in the most efficient and effective way possible. You will build and maintain relationships with our partner leadership team and internal Verizon organizations such as service assurance, legal, finance, product, and partner governance, to name a few, in order to ensure the partner is able to deliver a quality MNS experience to customers.
In this role, you will provide Tier IV engineering technical oversight that interfaces to product management for product related issues and projects, as well as providing a command & control function for chronic/compatibility issues, escalation and crisis situations which, if not resolved, could have serious implication for single or multiple customers, revenue and/or Verizon Business reputational impact. The team is also continuing to provide global Tier III incident management team support of the team to cover US business hours. This is expected to continue until the global Tier III future mode of operation.
In this role, you will lead a team of customer-facing lead Network Engineers providing Engineering Design Authority (EDA) Service for the largest and most complex Verizon MNS customers. The EDA team provides a direct link between the deployed engineering service and the governance of the engineering practice.
As the Director of Systems Architecture, you will lead a new team of Systems Architects supporting Verizon's continued transformation to digitize, standardize and innovate the end-to-end MNS design process. This role helps Verizon demonstrate our value to customers by creating Architectures and Standards while governing our partners as they design, implement and operate solutions in the most effective way possible. The new Systems Architecture team will interface and partner with both the new technical Solutions Architect team and the partner engineering teams to ensure standard deliverables in Solutions Design Packages (SDP) to enable our partners to design and implement a quality service.

- Meeting one-on-one weekly with managers and bi-weekly with individual contributors (at a minimum) to ensure any issues are being addressed in a timely manner.
- Meeting monthly as a team to cover organizational performance and any upcoming changes.
- Writing performance reviews and development plans to ensure continued professional development.
- Addressing any vacation coverage needed for team members.
- Ensuring mandatory training is completed
- Leveraging vendor training resources to advance the teams' technical skills.
- Developing SMEs for each platform to ensure deep technical knowledge is always available when needed.
- Encouraging office time for teaming and knowledge sharing sessions for team relationship building.
- Provide team leadership and professional guidance to both management direct reports and individual contributors on an ongoing basis.

You'll need to have...
- A degree or six or more years of experience
- Six or more years of experience in a technical senior leadership role
- Advanced network engineering skills to perform complex work for a functional area and general knowledge of other areas;
- Experience with structured business processes (e.g. ITIL, Project Management) and the impact of those processes on the technical environment.
- Experience in a senior level technical leadership role with experience team-building and leading teams to achieve measurable successful outcomes
Even better if you also have...
- A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or other technical engineering field
- An MBA or additional degree in Business
- Ten or more years of experience as a senior technical leader in a telecommunications or technology company
- General understanding of communications products and networking technologies in order to be able to understand technical issues that are being escalated.
- Experience with technology adoption, software development, business process optimization, automation, etc.
- Requires independent thinking; demands full use and application of principles, theories, concepts and technologies.
