The role is a Director of Sales responsible for promoting our value propositions and raising the awareness of our brand with various shippers and other companies that utilize freight rail as part of their supply chain. Expectations are that the Sales Director will promote and communicate the Amsted Rail value proposition within their assigned geographic region and strategically assigned accounts. This person is also responsible for areas such as; forecasting product demand, generating sales plans, strategic pricing strategies, attending industry events and trade shows, resolving shipping and/or delivery issues, and other activities related to the management of our financial targets.
The role has an expectation that the candidate engages in various railroad related groups and organizations to stay current with the rail industry trends and topics and to utilize our Engineering and New Product Development teams in their respective product categories to promote products and innovations. Specification of the Amsted Rail System at their key accounts is primary emphasis.
The candidate will work closely with a pre-assigned Amsted Rail resource team consisting of a Field Service Engineer and a Customer Service Representative in an effort to promote a unified “Commercial Team” approach for our Customers. Moderate travel is required to adequately maintain and build relations and support our sales target expectations.
- Undergraduate degree required
- Minimum 7+ years’ experience in the rail industry in a sales or commercial role, preferably with a shipper, railcar builder, railcar lessor or private railcar fleet owner
- Ability to create and implement strategic and tactical plans
- Executive level presentation and communication skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong customer service orientation
- Excellent knowledge of the North American freight rail shippers
- Self-motivated individual
- Understanding of core Microsoft Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
