About the Job
The Office of Residence Life seeks a full-time, 12-month, Director of Residence Life who will be responsible for overseeing student living and co-curricular experience in residential communities across campus. The candidate will provide direction and oversight to the residence life staff that includes Assistant Directors, Community Directors, and various student staff positions. The candidate will build and maintain relationships with campus-wide stakeholders who champion student success and retention. The Director of Residence life will serve as a facilitator, leader and an essential person in the effective process of student development and crisis response at High Point University.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
- Master’s degree preferred in student personnel/student affair, humanities, social sciences, psychology, education, counseling or a related field
Experience and Training
- At least 4 years of full-time, progressive work experience in residence life, housing, or student affairs, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
- Excellent reading, communication, collaboration skills and team building skills
- Excellent organization and planning skills
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to communicate with a variety of campus partners and University stakeholders both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of concepts of college student development.
- Ability to problem solve, critically think and analyze complex issues while effectively planning and organizing work.
- Ability to work well under pressure with multiple and changing deadlines
- Ability to work some evening and/or weekends
- Capacity to remain calm and make decisions in emergency situations
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Directly supervises three Assistant Directors - AD of Recruitment & Selection, AD of Residential Initiatives & Engagement, and AD of Training & Development
- Provides indirect supervision of Community Directors, Graduate Resident Directors/Graduate House Managers, Senior Resident Assistants, Resident Assistants, Community Assistants, and Residence Life Office Assistants
- Lead the recruitment, selection and training of professional staff which includes developing and providing ongoing opportunities for professional development/growth.
- Manage the operational budget for the Residence Life unit
- Responsible for coordinating resources and directing response during community and/or individual student crisis situations.
- Responsible for the delivery, assessment, and modification of a residential co-curriculum plan for students living on campus
- Collaborate with the Housing Operations team in the management, oversight and training of opening and closing for the residential communities and occupancy verification
- Assists with advising of the Resident Assistant Council
- Membership on applicable administrative and academic committees related to residence life and co-curricular programs
- Serve in staff-supervisor on-call rotation
- Other duties as assigned
