Job Details
Director of Purchasing
Reports To: Vice President of Operations
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Manage and Supervise two (2) Purchasing Clerks.
- Maintain standard price sheets for approved vendors.
- Seek out and Certify new vendor opportunities.
- Negotiate Material Prices and place Purchase Orders with wire mills.
- Coordinate Mill Product Deliveries for all warehouse locations.
- Work with Inventory Manager and VP of Operations to support optimal inventory levels and product mix.
- Communicate with the sales department regarding specific customer requirements/needs.
- Update the sales department with delivery changes to committed customer inventory.
- Support the Quality Department with vendor negotiations regarding quality issues.
- Ensure consistent Material Quality Standards.
- Support the VP of Operations with Vendor Contract Negotiations (pricing, lead times, payment terms, etc…).
- Travel (including international), as required (no more than 10%).
- Special Projects and Analysis as requested.
Required Education/Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Operations or similar. Master's Degree a plus! (equivalent work experience will be considered).
- 7-10 years of experience in Metal Purchasing. Preferably, Wire and/or Strip. But solid Purchasing Management in any industry will be considered.
- Demonstrated Leadership capabilities (3-4 years of Management experience) and proven group management skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong multi-tasking capabilities.
- Ability to read and understand Standard Material Specifications.
- Attitude of Continuous Process Improvement.
- Microsoft Office skills
- Team player with strong communication skills.
