Arab American Family Services is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Director of Programs to join our team to drive and support AAFS's dedicated mission-driven work. As a member of the executive team, this self-starter will play a hands-on role in contributing to the mission, vision and values of AAFS by developing and managing the organization's program portfolio, including planning for program growth. AAFS is a non-profit multiservice and advocacy organization dedicated to supporting and strengthening Arab American and other immigrant families in our region. Since 2001, AAFS has served over 30 communities in the Southwestern Chicagoland area through a variety of services including case management, domestic violence, behavioral health, community health education, elderly and disability assistance, immigration services, workforce, legal assistance, cultural diversity training and community engagement. JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Co-Founders and Co-Executive Directors, the Director of Programs is responsible for the overall management, implementation, and growth of the organization's program portfolio. This leadership role includes strategic planning, program development, monitoring, and performance oversight, with a focus on coaching and supporting program supervisors, building high performance teams, and grants management to support program operations, deliverables, and expansion.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Development and Strategic Leadership
- Lead the design, planning, and implementation of programs in alignment with the organization's mission and strategic goals.
- Work with senior leadership to develop and implement strategic plans for program growth, innovation, and sustainability.
- Develop program policies, procedures, and workflows to ensure services are grounded in systems and clear operational expectations.
Grant and Program Management
- Ensure all program deliverables are met per contract requirements and work closely with program staff to track, monitor, and report performance data to funders on a timely basis.
- Collaborate with key leadership and finance staff to manage current budgets and resources, ensuring efficient and allowable use of all funds and timely submission of funder reports.
- Understand data, articulate data needs, and monitor performance data to drive program quality, improvement, and success, including mapping and improving workflows to enhance efficiencies and impact.
Team Management and Development
- Provide leadership, coaching, and direct supervision to team supervisors and other key staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
- Develop and oversee training and professional development opportunities for program staff to enhance skills and knowledge. Identify and foster leadership potential of program staff.
Community Collaboration and Partnerships
- Develop and enhance working relationships with community-based organizations, coalitions, funders, government agencies, and other partnered agencies to leverage resources and maximize AAFS visibility and impact.
- Identify needs, develop, and deliver training and educational opportunities for community and institutional partners.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, social services, nonprofit management, or related field; master's level preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in project or program management in a nonprofit setting, with a proven track record of success in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
- 5+ years in a management role with extensive knowledge of and experience in developing and growing supervisors and leaders from diverse backgrounds.
- Exceptional understanding of social services and social issues impacting the AAFS community with a commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Demonstrated experience in case management, domestic violence, senior services, workforce development, youth services, and development of multiple line of services and/or programs.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate staff and partners.
- Strategic and critical thinker with the ability to develop and execute plans to achieve organizational goals and objectives. Innovative and analytical problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient in grant writing, grant management, and performance data monitoring, including tracking key performance indicators.
- Demonstrated community engagement skills including experience working with diverse populations and communities, and a commitment to culturally responsive and trauma-informed practices. Bilingual or multilingual skills a plus.
- Competent in Microsoft Office tools and reporting data in online portals and databases. Familiar with various screening tools.
- Some local and out of state travel may be required.
