Job Summary
As the Director of Nursing, you will be responsible for the overall management and supervision of the nursing department. You will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of excellent clinical care, maintaining regulatory compliance, and fostering a positive and supportive work environment for the nursing staff.
Responsibilities
- Leadership and Management:
- Provide leadership and direction to the nursing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, respect, and excellence in resident care.
- Oversee the daily operations of the nursing department, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to established policies and procedures.
- Manage and mentor nursing staff, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback.
- Participate in the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of new nursing staff.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels and manage schedules to meet resident care needs.
- Clinical Expertise:
- Maintain a high level of clinical competency in long-term care nursing, including assessment, care planning, medication management, and wound care.
- Oversee the implementation of resident care plans, ensuring they are individualized and meet each resident's unique needs.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to residents.
- Monitor resident outcomes and identify areas for improvement in clinical care delivery.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Develop and implement quality assurance programs to ensure the delivery of high-quality nursing care.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards, including state and federal guidelines.
- Participate in facility-wide quality improvement initiatives.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Establish and maintain effective communication channels within the nursing department and with other departments within the facility.
- Collaborate with the medical director, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care for residents.
- Communicate effectively with residents and their families, addressing concerns and providing updates on their care.
- Financial Management:
- Prepare and manage the nursing department's operational and capital budget.
- Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Marketing and Community Outreach:
- Participate in marketing efforts to promote the facility and its services to the community.
- Develop relationships with healthcare providers and community organizations to generate referrals and increase occupancy.
Qualifications
- Education and Licensure:
- Associate's degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
- Current RN license in the state of California.
- Current CPR certification.
- Experience:
- 5 years of experience as an RN in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) or acute care setting.
- 3 years of experience as a nurse manager or in a supervisory role.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong clinical skills and in-depth knowledge of long-term care nursing practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively manage and mentor a team.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing long-term care facilities.
- Proficient in using electronic medical records and other healthcare technology.
- Commitment to providing compassionate, resident-centered care.
Physical Demands:
- Frequent standing, walking, reaching, stooping, and bending.
- Occasional physical effort (lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds).
- Frequent sitting and computer use.
- Occasional kneeling and crouching.
Working Conditions:
- Primarily office temperature and conditions.
