Job Description
Scope of Responsibility: Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for the Nursing department to
assure quality of all clinical services and resident care.
Essential Functions: Rating (for evaluation purposes only)
____A. Carry out duties and function to support the campus as assigned.
____B. Live the mission and values to improve the quality of services for residents and team members on
the campus.
____C. Respect residents’ rights and adhere to rules of resident care and services as described in the
Team Member Handbook.
____D. Develop, implement and monitor nursing service objectives, standard of nursing practice, clinical
care, nursing procedures and policies and nursing service staffing patterns.
____E. Recruit and select nursing team members. Assure new nurses are oriented to correct
nursing practices. Mentor new nurses for 90 days. Assign and supervise nursing team members.
Perform annual feedback sessions with Nursing department team members according to process.
____F. Discipline nursing team members when necessary. Follow up on nurse practice and procedure
problems and concerns. Discipline as appropriate following company guidelines.
____G. Participate in planning and budgeting for Nursing. Maintain responsibility for nursing supplies,
services and hours to assure nursing services are efficient and cost effective.
____H. Ensure that nursing supplies are adequate and appropriate to meet the needs of residents.
Recommend the purchase of nursing equipment as well as maintenance of such equipment.
____I. Ensure that the nursing philosophy and objectives are understood and maintained by the nursing
team members.
____J. Ensure that the nursing team members receive orientation, on-going training and educational
development.
____K. Establish a procedure to ensure that nursing team members maintain valid and current licenses where applicable.
____L. Direct regularly scheduled nursing team meetings and conferences.
____M. Assist with the assignment of resident rooms.
____N. Ensure the initiation and development of the Resident Nursing Care Plan. Ensure that all nursing
team members attend and complete Geriatric University. Work closely with MDS to assure
appropriate documentation and care planning is in place and follow up on concerns.
____O. Coordinate nursing service with other resident services to provide holistic care for residents.
____P. Be available on an on-call basis.
____Q. Maintain regular awareness of resident conditions.
____R. Ensure that medications are administered properly and that discontinued medications are properly
returned or destroyed as appropriate.
____S. Maintain professional competence through participation in programs of continued education.
____T. Coordinate the Quality Assurance and Improvement Committee. Participate in the Infection Control
Subcommittee, and the Behavior Team meetings as needed to assure nursing involvement.
Participate in the Pharmaceutical Services Subcommittee. Maintain responsibility for the Quality
Improvement activities in healthcare assuring that department’s initiatives are reported at committee
meetings and each discipline is involved in Improvement activities.

____V. Continually looking for process improvement opportunities.
____W. Conducts timely feedback sessions.
Meeting the expectations of this position requires work beyond forty (40) hours per week, but typically will not exceed fifty (50) hours per week.
Position Requirements:
A. Education & Experience
1. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana.
2. Possess a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or equivalent experience.
3. Five or more years’ experience working within the company or a similar organization.
B. Skills and Requirements
1. Strong verbal and written communications skills.
2. Strong interpersonal skills.
3. 3Ability to direct and supervise a nursing program and team members.
C. Physical/Mental Requirements & Working Conditions

Team Member must be able to meet the following requirements with or without the use of prosthetic devices and/or reasonable accommodation.
1. Frequent fingering, walking, sitting, talking, hearing and repetitive motions required.
2. Occasional reaching, kneeling, standing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling required.
3. Requires the ability to lift-up to 60 pounds occasionally and up to 40 pounds frequently.
4. Requires the ability to see things clearly at 20 inches or less, as is common in visual inspection or
computer work.
5. This position is not substantially exposed to adverse working conditions. Adherence to universal
precautions are required.
