POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the overall provision of the optimal achievable quality of nursing care for all residents.
TITLE OF SUPERVISOR: Administrator
TITLE OF IMMEDIATE SUBORDINATES: Assistant Director of Nursing, and all Nursing department staff.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS - Education / Experience
· Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Massachusetts
· Minimum of three years additional education or experience in rehabilitative or geriatric nursing and one year of nursing services administration.
· CPR certified.
· Understands responsibilities concerning infection control, safety, accident and fire prevention.
· Ability to read, write and comprehend English; ability to follow oral and written instructions. Strong written, verbal, analytical and interpersonal skills.
· Fluent knowledge of word processing (including Microsoft Office) and other office equipment.
· Ability to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position assignment.
Working Conditions: Works in an appropriately lighted and ventilated environment.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day, proper body mechanics required.
· Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics/equipment that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
· Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Coordinates the delivery of all nursing services.
2. Acts as liaison between the Administrator and nursing services.
3. Reviews State of Connecticut inspection reports with the Administrator retrospectively to institute a plan of correction as required. Monitors results.
4. Updates and reviews nursing policies and procedures to assure continued quality of care.
5. Maintains professional contacts within the local community. Represents the facility during interactions and communication with residents and their families.
6. Assists the Administrator in the overall planning of the facility's goals and objectives as requested.
7. Assumes any appropriate responsibilities and duties of the Administrator in his/her absence.
8. Ensures that nursing requirements for licensure and accreditation are maintained. Documents all professional licenses.
9. Calculates staffing levels for nursing services department as required by the State of Connecticut Public Health Code.
10. Assures coordination of nursing services department's activities with those of other facility departments.
11. Maintains written position descriptions for nursing services personnel. Updates as appropriate.
12. Interviews, selects, and appoints all nursing services personnel.
13. Interprets the facility's Nursing Policies and Procedures for department personnel. Ensures implementation.
14. Responsible for yearly written evaluations and for documenting disciplinary concerns for all nursing services personnel.
15. Makes regular rounds to assure optimal quality of care is provided.
16. Responsible for overall coordination of reportable events reports including notification of appropriate State Departments as required.
17. Reports to the Administrator any critical employee relations issues, complaints, or unresolved grievances.
18. Communicates issues regarding resident care to the Medical Director as appropriate. Assumes duties and attends meetings as assigned by the Administrator.
19. Plans, organizes, develops, implements, and interprets the facility's goals, objectives, policies and procedures.
20. Performs other related duties and attends meetings as may be deemed necessary by Administrator and or Director / governing body and managing partner.
