Position Description
JOB TITLE: Director of Membership and Events –
Private Club (Golf)
DEPARTMENT: Golf Operations/Sales
REPORTS TO: General Manager
ESSENTIAL PURPOSE:
To sell memberships, catering events and tournaments while maximizing the revenue opportunity for the club. To represent the club in negotiations with clients. To research, identify and target new members and clients for the club. To ensure complete member and client satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Membership Sales
Sales and Revenue Goals
• Meet or exceed membership sales and retention targets.
• Manage the membership sales pipeline and report progress to senior leadership.
• Help develop pricing strategies and membership packages aligned with club objectives.
Event Planning and Networking
• Plan and host events to attract prospective members and enhance the experience of current members.
• Represent the club at community and industry events to foster visibility and partnerships.
Member Retention
• Build and maintain strong relationships with existing members to ensure satisfaction and long-term engagement.
• Help conduct periodic member feedback surveys and act on insights to improve the member experience.
Operational Oversight
• Maintain accurate membership records and manage the onboarding process.
• Work closely with other departments to ensure members' expectations are consistently met across all services.
Market Analysis
• Stay informed on trends in the private club industry to adapt strategies accordingly.
• Analyze competitor offerings and pricing to maintain the club's competitive edge.
Communication and Collaboration
• Act as the primary point of contact for membership inquiries and concerns.
• Coordinate with marketing, events, and operations teams to enhance the member journey.
• To have ongoing communication with JC Golf's marketing team to plan for strategic initiatives to optimize business operations.
Catering and Tournament Sales
• To actively pursue prospective catering and tournament clients for future and repeat business and to build long-term relationships.
• To actively maintain a competitive analysis of catering pricing and offerings by researching the local competitors.
• To network in the community and be responsible for identifying and attending professional events and tradeshows throughout the year to target new business for the club.
• To personally conduct informational tours of the facility with all prospective clients.
• To provide prompt and professional response to all verbal and written inquiries. In addition, send a timely thank you email to appropriate member, catering and tournament perspective contacts.
• To actively promote and secure tournament and group outings by marketing and making sales calls to golf clubs and associations, organizations, charities, businesses, corporations, and hotel and destination management companies.
• To immediately enter all sales and lead prospects into the respective database.
• To track all correspondence with the prospect and client through the respective database.
• To upsell various services where applicable.
• To anticipate, understand, and respond to all prospects and client needs and requests in a timely and professional manner.
• To ensure the operational departments and teams are communicated in a timely manner with new memberships, catering events and tournaments.
• To conduct sales calls necessary to re-book the client, after their event, in a timely manner.
• To be visible on the day of catering and tournament events to ensure their success and to try to rebook the event.
• Attend all major member events to engage with members, develop relationships and referrals.
• To engage with members, meet their guests and network to develop relationships and referrals.
• To maintain regular and consistent office hours, Tuesday through Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and to be available for prospective walk-ins and tours
• Executive (Managerial) Exemption: Customarily and regularly use discretion and independent judgment in performing these job duties and will direct the work of two or more employees.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Sales and Marketing or equivalent experience preferred.
Experience: A minimum of five years in membership sales, meeting and catering sales or coordination, and tournament sales preferred.
Languages: English required; Spanish preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
Vehicles/Machinery: California driver's license and ability to drive a car (preferred or required)
JOB KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Demonstrated knowledge in sales strategies, membership acquisition tactics, lead generation, relationship building, strong communication skills, team leadership, market analysis, CRM systems, and a deep understanding of the organization's membership structure and value proposition, all while focusing on achieving membership growth and retention goals; detail oriented, organized and efficient; ability to effectively prioritize multiple assignments from different sources, able to work productively with little supervision; proactive; strong project management skills; high quality standards for work product and service; trustworthy and able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information; strong verbal and written communication skills; strong conflict resolution skills; courteous, friendly, and professional manner; proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, internet use, and office equipment operation.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Works primarily indoors in temperature-controlled, clean, and well lighted office. Exposed to weather conditions while conducting tours and checking on functions. Makes frequent trips to the kitchen, where air may be moist, warm, or odorous from cooking foods.
Kitchen floors are uneven and may be slippery. Bi-level structures.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Stands/walks moderate distances, across landscaped and uneven terrain, in hot climates and up/down stairs. Sits at desk, in meetings and a vehicle. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, bend, reach, and stretch. Uses phones and computers throughout shift. Occasionally handles and moves objects weighing up to 20 lbs. over short distances. Uses close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Extensive reading and communication, including with individuals who may be upset and emotional. Must work to deadlines and maintain a flexible schedule.
EXEMPT POSITION: Exempt employees are not covered by the overtime provisions and do not receive overtime pay. Exempt employees are paid a fixed salary that is intended to cover all of the compensation to which they are entitled. Because they are exempt, such employees are not entitled to additional compensation for extra hours of work or time off in lieu of additional compensation.

The expected base wage range for this position is: $68,640 to $70,000 annually. This position may be eligible for additional compensation according to the Company’s policies, as they may be amended from time to time.
