UC Health is hiring a full-time Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support in the Surgery - Administration - General Department.
The Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support provides 24-hour leadership and accountability for the clinical practice and operational functions of perfusion-related patient care in the operating room as well as the pre-and post-operative settings. University of Cincinnati Medical Center will serve as the primary location for the Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support, with responsibilities expanding to include West Chester Hospital. The Director of Mechanical Circulatory Support will develop collaborative relationships with the hospitals served to facilitate optimal patient care.

Responsibilities
- Collaborates with Intra/Inter-departmental Staff, Managers, Administrators, and Physicians to Develop and Grow Cardiac Treatment Options for Patients.
- Collaborates with the Medical Director of MCS/Heart Failure, the Medical Director of ECMO, and the Perioperative Leadership Team to support and grow cardiac programs such as: ventricular assist devices (VADs), extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), minimally invasive procedures, and heart transplants.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with the Mobile Care department to facilitate transportation of ECMO patients needing cardiac or respiratory care.
- Maintains records for tracking MCS patients and their implants/equipment.
- Maintains relationships with CTS, Critical Care Anesthesiology Team, and Cardiology to facilitate care for ECMO patients with Cardiopulmonary Failure.
- Reviews orders for and maintenance of equipment for VAD patients intra-operatively and post-operatively.
- Collaborates with the VAD coordinators, nursing staff, cardiologists, surgeons, and other medical personnel regarding the treatment of patients.
- Maintains skills and techniques required to perform the following procedures: Extracorporeal Circulation (CPB), Left Heart Bypass, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumping, Cardiac Assist Devices (VADs), Extra-Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Liver Transplant, Isolated Limb Perfusion, Intra-Peritoneal Hyperthermic Perfusion, Autologous Blood Salvage, Platelet Rich Plasma, and Plasma Sequestration.
- Collaborates with Intra/Inter-departmental Staff, Managers, Administrators, and Physicians to Develop and Grow Non-Cardiac Treatment Options for Patients:
• Establishes and maintains relationships with the Transplant department to facilitate improved treatment for liver transplant patients.
• Establishes and maintains relationships with the Surgical Oncology department to facilitate improved hyperthermia treatments for cancer patients.
• Establishes and maintains relationships with the Trauma department to facilitate improved treatment for trauma patients.
• Establishes and maintains relationships with the Orthopedic, Spine, and Vascular departments to facilitate improved treatment for patients requiring cell salvage therapy.
• Establishes and maintains relationships with the Anesthesia department to facilitate improved treatment for Jehovah's Witness patients requiring cell salvage therapy, plasma sequestration, and other blood conservation techniques.
• Establishes and maintains relationships with service lines not mentioned above as opportunities for growth and expansion present themselves - Maintains appropriate levels of medical equipment to achieve fiscal responsibility and excellent patient care.
- Ensures appropriate levels of disposables are maintained by collaborating with expeditors, purchasing, inventory control specialists, and material distribution managers
- Charges for patient VAD supplies and ECMO charges.
- Audits patient charges for the department to ensure accuracy.
- Collaborates with the Business Director of Perioperative Services to develop an operating budget for the Perfusion cost center.
- Collaborates with the Perioperative leadership team for all capital purchases.
- Manages budgets for cost centers across UCMC and WCH.
- Monitors budget allowances for continuing education. Develops and executes a succession plan for perfusion, and ECMO.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree is required.
- Master's Degree is preferred.
- Graduate of an accredited perfusion training program is required.
- Minimum is certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP).
- Must maintain ABCP Certification on an annual basis.
- 3 years as a Certified Clinical Perfusionist is required.
