Our client, and established and well respected Surveying and Engineering Firm in the Baltimore area has an opportunity for an experienced surveyor to be Director of Surveys.
This is an opportunity for the right individual to take the next step in their career to join and lead an experienced Land Surveying Department within an established firm.
The Director of Surveys Manages daily operation of the Survey Department. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Supervise and manage field crew and office personnel.
- Manages all survey projects.
- Coordinate with clients and consultants to ensure their design coincides with field conditions.
- Establish and direct the workload of all survey staff.
- Review all survey documents prepared by survey staff.
- Compute/draft, prepare and/or check deed mosaics, subdivision plans, boundary surveys, topographic surveys, elevation certificates, location surveys, computation details, cut sheets and other survey documents.
- Review and evaluate architectural, structural and civil plans relating directly to survey construction layout projects. Confer with architects, engineers, planners, clients to resolve conflicting data, obtain missing data and correct errors in said plans.
- Prepare survey proposals, prepare and track survey project budgets.
- Identifying changes in scope and when appropriate, communicating time and financial impacts including creating Change Orders to client when needed;
- Evaluate the performance of all survey personnel.
- Provide pricing of survey activities incorporated into engineering/planning proposals.
- Confer with and advise engineers, developers, consultants and other department heads relating to survey projects.
- Supervise and/or perform research of public survey records.
- Perform quality control of survey department documents including documents prepared by licensed surveyor.
- Minimize company’s liability exposure.
- Participate weekly in management scheduling meeting.
- Assist in business development.
- Perform drafting when needed to finalize surveys for engineering/planning departments and/or clients.
- Monitor, review, evaluate and approve monthly invoices making sure costs are within project budgets.
- Develop and implement survey policies and procedures.
- Perform incident investigations regarding company vehicle collisions, theft of survey equipment or personnel injuries.
Qualifications:
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Civil 3D 2019 or higher, Microsoft Word and Excel;
- Comply with established company drafting and CAD standards;
- Baltimore City and Baltimore County experience a plus;
- Being a licensed Maryland Surveyor in Maryland highly preferred
