Director of Information Governance

POSITION SUMMARY
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and enforcement of information governance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, as well as best practices within the legal industry.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works closely with IT and General Counsel to develop the IG strategic plan and IG policies.
- Provides direction to IG stakeholder functions (i.e., legal, risk/compliance, IT/ security).
- Works with IT to maintain a detailed and complete inventory of all on premise and cloud hosted electronic information repositories with a full understanding of the classification of data stored in each storage location.
- Collaborates with the Litigation Support team to assist with discovery collections pertaining to legal matter involving the Firm.
- Ensures that the Firm’s information assets are appropriately handled throughout their life cycles in accordance with the organization’s policy and legal and regulatory requirements.
- Implements the IG program requirements to ensure compliance with relevant federal and state laws and regulations and the organization’s policies and procedures applicable to IM.
- Develops and leads annual training and awareness session for employees, and others to increase their knowledge and understanding of IG.
- Addresses and provides guidance for compliance activities.
- Works with legal counsel to ensure that activities associated with legal holds and discovery requests are in accordance with internal and external requirements.
- Evaluate hardware, software and data life cycles for applications related to this job and position in the Firm.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement and ensure adherence to IG standards.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL & ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Information Technology, Legal Studies or related field. JD is a plus.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in information governance, or related fields, preferably in a legal or professional services environment.
- Experience working with a document management system (iManage experience is a plus).
- Experience working with Microsoft Purview.
- Candidates must be highly organized and capable of working independently.
- Excellent communication skills, oral and written required.
- Strong knowledge of data privacy laws and regulations, information security best practices, and records management principles.
- Experience managing a team and working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
