THE OPPORTUNITY
The Director of Human Resources will lead the HR Department, reporting directly to the CEO, and overseeing all aspects of the HR strategy and execution. This position is designed for a professional with experience in larger organizations seeking the opportunity to bring that expertise to a smaller, fun, and faster-paced environment where they can make a tangible difference while establishing themselves as a (mini) CHRO. The Director of HR will work across all HR functions, from day-to-day operations to long-term strategic initiatives, to ensure our company attracts, develops, and retains top talent. The position has one direct report.
This role is ideal for a seasoned HR Manager or HR Director from a Fortune-500 medical device company who is ready to transition to a more strategic leadership role where they can truly own the HR function of a company. The candidate should be ready to embrace a hands-on approach, effectively managing both tactical daily needs and long-term strategic initiatives. This is a fast-pace and high energy culture similar to a start-up environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic HR Leadership
- Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with business objectives, focusing on talent acquisition, development, retention, and employee engagement.
- Collaborate with the executive team (Sales, Operations, Manufacturing) to shape organizational culture, drive change management initiatives, and foster a positive work environment.
Employee Relations and Engagement
- Act as a trusted advisor to leaders and employees, addressing and resolving issues proactively to maintain a high-performance culture.
- Create programs to enhance employee engagement, wellness, and satisfaction.
Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning
- Lead the development of recruitment strategies to attract high-quality talent, including partnering with recruiting vendors and overseeing candidate experience.
- Oversee workforce planning to support our growth objectives and maintain our agility as an organization.
HR Operations and Compliance
- Manage HR operations, including payroll, benefits, and HRIS, to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws in all states where we operate.
- Design, implement, and manage efficient HR processes and systems (vendors) to support scalability and drive efficiencies while maintaining a strong employee experience.
Learning and Development
- Continue to develop a framework for employee training, performance management, and leadership development, addressing both immediate needs and long-term growth.
- Partner with department heads to assess skills gaps and design development programs tailored to the company’s goals.
Compensation and Benefits
- Oversee the company’s compensation structure, ensuring market competitiveness and internal equity.
- Evaluate and manage benefits offerings to support employee well-being and enhance our employer value proposition.
Change Management and Organizational Development
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives and assist with designing and implementing organizational changes as the company scales.
- Support leaders in building high-performing teams through effective leadership and communication.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree or HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally with a blend of large corporate and small-company/start-up experience.
- Experience with multi-estate sites experience a plus
- Proven success in both strategic planning and hands-on execution across the full HR spectrum, from recruitment and employee relations to organizational development and compliance.
- Strong knowledge of employment law, HR best practices, and experience managing HR operations and benefits administration.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with a high degree of professionalism and discretion.
- A collaborative, solutions-oriented approach and the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where agility is key.
