Jefferson Wells is seeking a Controller for a client or ours in the not-for-profit sector. This position would require working onsite 5 days a week in the Southfield, MI area. This would be a contract to hire role or permanent.
Summary
The Controller is a key member of the finance team, responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the organization. This role requires a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), non-profit accounting principles, and grant accounting regulations. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with a passion for supporting the mission of [Organization Name].
Key Responsibilities:
+ Financial Accounting & Reporting:
+ Oversee all aspects of the accounting cycle, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
+ Manage the audit process and coordinate with external auditors.
+ Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
+ Grant Management:
+ Oversee the grant application and reporting process, ensuring compliance with all grant requirements and deadlines.
+ Monitor grant expenditures and prepare timely and accurate grant reports.
+ Build and maintain strong relationships with grantors.
+ Budgeting & Forecasting:
+ Develop and manage annual budgets in collaboration with department heads.
+ Prepare and monitor monthly financial forecasts.
+ Analyze financial performance and provide insightful reports to management.
+ Financial Analysis & Reporting:
+ Prepare and analyze key financial metrics to track organizational performance.
+ Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
+ Team Management:
+ Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
+ Develop and implement internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records. Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) preferred.
+ CPA preferred, not required.
+ Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting and finance, with at least 3 years of experience in the non-profit sector.
+ Strong accounting close experience.
+ Strong understanding of GAAP, non-profit accounting principles, and grant accounting regulations.
+ Experience with grant management.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Sage would be a plus.
+ Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
+ Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
